  • We’ve said it before, we’ll say it again: Any woman who can take a move like this and make a successful run for Senate deserves to be in office. And McMahon looks like she’ll have her chance – she won her Senate primary in Connecticut. Question: Will a woman who openly peddled violence to kids through the WWE have a better chance of winning than Richard Blumenthal, a guy who was dishonest about his military service? We’ll find out. source

  • Teamsters official John Hollis • Describing Omar S. Thornton, the disgruntled employee who shot and killed eight, then himself, in a workplace shooting. Thornton had just finished a disciplinary meeting with management at Manchester, Conn.-based Hartford Distributors when he started shooting “indiscriminately,” according to Hollis. Thornton was the newest hire at the family-owned beer and wine distribution company, and had worked there around two years. Nobody saw it coming. source

  • Sometimes it’s not just the crime; it’s where the crime occurs. 16-year-old Chloe Ottman was found brutally murdered at Holy Land U.S.A., a Connecticut religious site which has fallen into disrepair over the years but is still, you know, an iconic religious site. Francisco Cruz, 19, was charged with capital felony murder in the crime, which he confessed to. U.S.: A Catholic sex-abuse conflict that DOESN’T involve the Pope

  • The church didn’t recognize that this bill makes improvements. The victims  – their lives have been changed and some will never recover from years of sexual abuse. For me, it’s about giving them access to the courts.
  • Connecticut Rep. Beth Bye • Regarding a sex-abuse limitations bill running through the state legislature. The bill would allow those with concrete abuse claims access to the courts. Much like everything else Catholic-Church-sex-abuse related nowadays, the Church is in strong defensive mode and telling parishioners to fight against the bill. Bye says the bill makes improvements – for example, someone older than 48 making a claim has to join a case led by someone younger than 48, and show substantial proof of abuse. Oh, and the bill isn’t focused on the Catholic Church at all – it just affects them most because they’re in the news. source

Offbeat: Stupid robber calls ahead, gives bank time to prepare for arrest

  • I’ve heard of drive-up robberies where they rob the bank via drive-up windows. But I’ve never had somebody call ahead and say, ‘Get the money, we’re coming.’
  • Fairfield, Connecticut, Police Department Det. Lt. Michael Gagner • Regarding one of the stupidest bank robbers ever. Yesterday afternoon, the People’s Bank of Fairfield got a call demanding $100,000 or threatening a bloodbath. Unfortunately, they didn’t realize that they gave the bank ample time to call the police. Albert Bailey and a juvenile have been charged in the robbery. source

  • bad Crews had to call off the search early this morning with some workers unaccounted for.
