Culture: We admit, this Lindsay Lohan sentencing video broke us

  • We’re not completely made of stone. Heck, some might argue we’re made of softer substances, like flesh and bone. Those jerks would be wrong, but still, it’s worth emphasizing that seeing Lohan as a bucket of emotions is pretty powerful. Even constant tabloid subjects have souls.

Culture: Brittany Murphy draws somber reaction from her “Clueless” co-star

  • I always felt connected to her as we shared a very special experience in our lives together. I feel love in my heart for her—and hope she is at peace. This is truly sad.
  • “Clueless” star Alicia Silverstone • On the death of her former co-star, Brittany Murphy. Murphy, who died this morning at 32, was perhaps not an A-lister, but she was definitely a A-minus-lister, showing up in “Clueless,” “8 Mile,” “Girl, Interrupted,” “Sin City,” and over 200 episodes of “King of the Hill” (she was LuAnne). Silverstone, who admits to losing touch with the girl she made over in the movies, said she “was so talented, so warm, and so sweet.” The ones who die young are the ones that hurt most – and Murphy’s death was nothing short of shocking on that specific level. source

Culture: Obituary: Thank you for being a friend, Bea Arthur.

  • Half of the Golden Girls have officially passed away. *Sigh* Bea Arthur, known for two major roles – the namesake character of “Maude” and Dorothy on “The Golden Girls” – died this morning of cancer in her home. She was 86. Both shows were immensely popular and each garnered Emmys for Arthur. “Maude” tackled such hot-button topics as abortion and pornography, while “The Golden Girls” proved that you could make a show around a bunch of old retired ladies really popular. Arthur follows her TV mom, Estelle Getty, in death – Getty, who was actually younger than Arthur, died last year. source

Culture: Cloris Leachman’s tell-all autobiography tells a little too much

  • One day we made an agreement that I would have sex with him if he lost 32 pounds. He almost did it; he lost 29 pounds. We both got so disoriented at what we were facing that his weight shot back up, and our assignation never happened.
  • Actress Cloris Leachman • Discussing the possibility of having sex with Ed Asner, her co-star on “Mary Tyler Moore.” She also speaks of a random night with Gene Hackman back in the 1970s. Keep in mind that all this stuff happened over 30 years ago and Leachman is like 82 now. • source

Culture: Natasha Richardson’s life cut short by a freak skiing accident

  • She seemed OK at first, then got much, much worse. Richardson, the wife of Liam Neeson and daughter of Vanessa Redgrave, had a fall during a beginner’s skiing accident at a Quebec resort on Monday, initially seemed OK, then declined quickly, the victim of a head injury. She was 45. Richardson’s family, in a statement, asked “for privacy during this very difficult time.” source

Culture: Kate Winslet won’t let anyone draw her naked anymore

  • I think I won’t do it again: a) I can’t keep getting away with it, and b) I don’t want to become ‘that actress who always gets her kit off.’
  • Kate Winslet • on her decision to stop getting naked for the camera. The actress, nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for “The Reader,” apparently does it too much and is worried about her onscreen reputation. If she changes her mind, a bunch of perverts probably wouldn’t mind. • source
