World: Jerks who ganked expensive paintings knew what they were doing

  • It seems as if they knew exactly what they were looking for and knew the value of each painting. There were two paintings by Modigliani hung next to each other and they took the more expensive.
  • Paris deputy mayor in charge of culture Christophe Girard • Regarding the theft of five paintings from the city’s Musée d’Art Moderne, which is out over €100 million as a result. The paintings were some great works of art by some name artists – Picasso, Matisse, Braque, Léger and Modigliani – whose paintings are so expensive that we’re surprised we didn’t get charged for typing their names. While a security system was on the fritz, Girard made it clear that the problem with the alarms wasn’t enough to pull off the heist, as the museum’s security has a lot of redundancy. It’s possible that it might’ve been an inside job. source

This guy is named Albert Gonzalez, and he’s responsible for stealing 130 million credit card numbers, along with two Russian hackers who probably look like video game characters. If you’ve ever shopped at 7-Eleven, there’s a good chance your card was stolen by this guy. He pleaded guilty today. So remember. Hate him. You. source

World: We’re not thankful for Iran swiping a Nobel Peace Prize from its winner

Shirin Ebadi won the award in 2003. The Norwegian foreign ministry says it’s “the first time a Nobel Peace Prize has been confiscated by national authorities.” Lame. source

Sports: Ryan Howard upsets 12-year-old girl. 12-year-old girl gets even.

  • give 12-year-old Jennifer Valdivia caught slugger Ryan Howard’s record-setting 200th home run ball at a Phillies game in July. She offered to give the ball to Howard, with the promise he would show up. He never did.
  • take Feeling that the potentially-valuable ball was stolen from her. Valdivia and her mother got a lawyer, and this week, in the midst of the Phillies’ playoff run, threatened to sue. The ball was promptly returned. source
