Politics: Charlie Crist talked it out with Lieberman – it’s gonna be OK

  • 2006 After Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman got trashed in the
    2006 Democratic primary by
Ned Lamont, he ran as an independent – and won, handily.
  • 2010 Facing a similar situation in
a Florida Senate race, Gov. Charlie Crist took some advice from Lieberman, which led to his indie-leaning decision. source

Politics: Arizona Republic to leaders: Stop being selfish. Fix immigration.

  • A Bold front page Sunday’s Arizona Republic devoted its entire page 1 to an editorial on the immigration troubles currently surrounding the state.

blaming the leaders The editorial takes many leaders – including, among others, former governor Janet Napolitano and current one Jan Brewer, Senators John McCain and Jon Kyl, and McCain’s Senate competitor and radio host J.D. Hayworth – to task for looking out for their own political interests first. source

Politics: Is Harry Reid pondering what we’re pondering?

The Senate Majority Leader can’t seem to make up his mind – first climate change was coming first, then immigration, now it’s climate change again. source

Politics: WTF CNN? Site poses a big question on network’s soft news

  • CNN has a journalism problem. Some argue that its overly soft content focus, both online and on TV, is why the network is getting killed in the ratings. That’s what WTFCNN.com argues – it compares the CNN front page to a hard-news front page. But we have to admit, the two front page examples we hit here don’t exactly sell their argument well. Greece is a big freaking deal, but then again, so is 5,000 barrels of oil flooding the ocean daily. And hey, if a first lady is going to accuse someone of poisoning her husband, that seems reasonably important. source

Politics: Two purposely awful Photoshops on the Charlie Crist situation

  • We tried to make these Photoshops extra awful… bad cutouts, obvious cliches, the whole bit. We’re pretty sure the Kanye shades aren’t even cut out all the way! But let’s face it. The Florida governor has better taste in wolf shirts than Panda Bear. Marco Rubio may have youth and momentum going in his direction, but Charlie Crist has the indie vote. source

Politics: Pundits try to put the Goldman Sachs saga into words, struggle

  • Can this be easily explained? No, but these pundits are gonna try. Here’s a five-minute long video of TV news types trying to explain what some say is easy to explain but others say is really hard. Either way, it’s hilarious to watch them play with metaphors. source

Politics: The 2010 election prospects for both parties, in map form

  • Harry Reid’s Nevada seat is currently listed as “toss-up.” The Washington Post put together this huge map suggesting what’s happening with all of the major Congressional races this year. There are a LOT of toss-up states in the Senate alone. Is it enough to switch the balance of power significantly? We’ll see. source

Politics: Deal or no deal, 60th vote for Senate financial reform debate in sight

  • If backdoor haggling goes on too long, Sen. George Voinovich will vote yes to get the ball moving. Many GOP senators might be ready to break ranks to make the financial reform bill happen, according to Voinovich. He says he knows how long it should take for a deal to go through, but if one doesn’t, he’ll play vote number 60. By the way, Senators Richard Shelby and Chris Dodd say they’re close to a deal, but Sen. Bob Corker (who knows the score) says they’re not as close as they say. source

Politics: Sen. Lindsey Graham an oddball ’cause he tries to compromise

  • I guess the word ‘maverick’ is out of vogue. But I would say he’s courageous. He’s willing to risk political capital in order to solve problems. Everybody scratches their head about it, because such a trait is unusual.
  • GOP consultant John Weaver • Regarding Sen. Lindsey Graham and his ability to put his political stature on the line to actually work with people. The climate change thing has him angry because he spent a lot of time putting himself on the line. It’s led to a tight relationship with the White House, even if it is a little biting at times. “Rahm has a good relationship with him,” said press secretary Robert Gibbs. “The president has a good relationship with him. Many folks here do.” source
