Culture: The Muppets ring the bells for their “Bohemian” encore

  • Will the Muppets ever get old? No. Which is why this (and the recent “Bohemian Rhapsody” viral hit which had everyone and their mother talking) make us happy. Whoever decided to make the Muppets into viral sensations after years of neglect deserves a cookie and a pat on the head – this is the perfect format for their awesomeness.

Culture: Dave Eggers latest work of staggering genius? A newspaper

  • We don’t pretend to have the solutions. We’re just asking a few questions. We admit how little we know, but we’re trying to luxuriate in print and maybe remind people of everything it can do.
  • Bestselling novelist and McSweeney’s founder Dave Eggers • On his latest gambit, the San Francisco Panorama, a 300-page newspaper he’s selling for $16. He had a little help from his friends – over 150 freelancers worked on the project, which is just as much a testament to the newspaper form as it is amazing art project which might get people excited about newspapers – and journalism in general – again. We know we are. Now where to we buy one of these? source

Culture: If you tag enough places, you too can get into the NYC art scene

It’s always nice when a grafitti artist gets a chance to go legit, as the anonymous tagger BNE has. He has an art exhibit coming up in Manhattan. That rules. source

Culture: Tiger Woods drama: Uh, holy crap. Who’s on that stretcher?

  • Whoever’s on that stretcher isn’t looking so hot. This morning, a 911 call came from the home of Tiger Woods, leading to someone taken to the hospital on a stretcher from a nearby house. The person on the stretcher has been described as a “blonde woman.” She was followed in an SUV driven by someone matching Elin Nordegren’s description. Jesus, let’s hope this isn’t bad. (On a side note: The Orlando Sentinel, despite being updated just moments ago, has a complete fail of correct, up-to-date information. We apologize for using their site for this story.) source

Culture: TIGER WOODS NUDE PHOTOS? WHAT? PLAYGIRL FREAKS OUT

  • Tiger Woods is currently seeing his life getting destroyed. Apparently, because all the juicy crap in the previous post wasn’t enough, Playgirl has something potentially even more damaging on the table. Apparently, there are nude photos – likely cell-phone shot – of everyone’s favorite family-friendly golfer in the buff. Jesus Christ. You know what, this shit isn’t even funny anymore. LEAVE TIGER ALONE! source

Culture: Who didn’t Tiger Woods have an affair with, anyway?

  • The latest to come forward: A Perkins waitress. Listen, there’s so many of these reported affairs now that we’re going to guess that some of them aren’t true. Although this one has a better chance than some of the others. Mindy Lawton, a waitress at an Orlando Perkins where Woods was known to get an egg-white omelet with broccoli, claims that she had a year-long relationship with the super-celeb. We’ll say it again, man. You could’ve saved yourself so much trouble had you come clean immediately. Now it’s just a sad, unbearably depressing joke. source

Culture: Zhu Zhu Hamsters: Impossible to find, may cause cancer

  • We are disputing the findings of Good Guide, and we are 100 percent confident that Mr. Squiggles, and all other Zhu Zhu toys, are safe and compliant with all U.S. and European standards for consumer health and safety in toys.
  • Cepia CEO Russ Hornsby • In a statement defending his products from a report by a California consumer group that says his company’s signature product, the popular Zhu Zhu Hamster, contains a chemical that might cause cancer. The metal, antimony, “can lead to cancer, reproductive health, and other human health hazards” if ingested at high enough levels, according to Good Guide, a consumer watchdog group. Can they cause cancer just because they’re so popular? source
