Tech: The RIAA: The Viacom/YouTube decision is “bad public policy”

  • So says the group that sues suburban mothers for stealing two dozen songs. President Cary Sherman says that the ruling “will actually discourage service providers from taking steps to minimize the illegal exchange of copyrighted works on their sites.” To that, we say, make it easier to exchange content legally and you won’t have an issue. Fewer lawsuits (actually, wait, no lawsuits), more cool things like Lala and Rdio. source

Tech: Why is Amazon even charging for the Kindle in the first place?

  • Amazon’s model should be selling books- and to hell with the device itself. The iPad is raising hell with everybody.
  • Tech analyst Charles Wolf • Describing the major flaw in Amazon’s current pricing model with the Kindle – which is that they cost a lot of money, making uptake seem less desirable in the wake of the iPad. The company recently cut the prices of the more expensive – and larger – Kindle DX, which was a good idea because it cost $10 less than the iPad and did far less. It now costs $379, and sports a new design and a high-contrast display. It’s sexy, but at that price point, who would buy this? The only major thing it has over the iPad is that the screen doesn’t have much glare and can be read in sunlight. That’s it. source

Politics: Daily Kos’ pollster was making stuff up? We’re not making this up.

  • And now the liberal-leaning site is suing Research 2000. Fans of seeing those on the far left fall on their faces, this is your lawsuit. Daily Kos’ polling company, Research 2000, reportedly made up a number of widely-reported surveys which it did for Kos. Worse, they would not give Kos the raw data for these surveys (which they paid over $100,000 for), further raising suspicions. You know, we’ve been critical of right-leaning pollsters Rasmussen in the past, but we’re pretty sure they’ve done nothing like this (and that their data is actually sound). source
