Culture: Sad: DJ AM’s plane crash suit turns into a wrongful death lawsuit

  • Before, it was just a sad story. Now, it’s much worse. The family of DJ AM amended the lawsuit against Clay Lacy Aviation, Goodyear Tire, Learjet and the estates of the two pilots killed in the crash. The suit states that although indirectly, the 2008 plane crash that Adam Goldstein miraculously survived (along with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker) led him to the drug relapse, which eventually killed him. Who knows if the suit will be successful? Ultimately, he’s gone. source

Tech: Dell’s smartphones bored the U.S. market, so off to China they go!

  • Oh, and Brazil too, but still … not the U.S. Dell’s Mini 3, anew Google Android-based smartphone, has no shot of really gaining a foothold in the U.S. It’s Dell (boring computers) doing a smartphone (boring smartphones). So, rather than waste all that energy trying to impress American customers who already have iPhones, Pres and Droids to gawk at, they’ve decided to strike out on two different markets which aren’t so staked out by these phones. Good luck selling your boring phones, Dell. source

Offbeat: The latest in the awful rapper game: BANGS’ Sudanese slang

  • We didn’t consider that there might be a rapper out there with skills even lesser than Boostalk‘s, but it appears Sudanese spitter BANGS has him beat. Sample rhyme: “Let’s sit in those two chairs alone/watching a movie/so we can see what’s going on.” So deep. On the plus side, at least we still have Chuggo. (Hat tip Andrew Sullivan)

Tech: A drop in the bucket? NASA finds tons of water on the moon

  • I’m here today to tell you that indeed, yes, we found water. And we didn’t find just a little bit; we found a significant amount.
  • NASA scientist Anthony Colaprete • Describing the excitement caused by the Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite, which crashed into the moon last month with the specific purpose of finding water. And oh boy, it found a lot of it: A dozen two-gallon buckets of water. This is promising for many reasons, including the fact that this makes a lunar space station seem possible. We just made a ton of nerds’ days with this news. • source

Culture: It’s official; the Balloon Boy parents plead guilty

  • No word on if they’ll be sentenced to a tomato-thowing at the town square. Richard and Mayumi Heene made things easy on the American public by pleading guilty today – Richard on a felony charge and Mayumi on a misdemeanor. Hopefully the court can legally prevent them from profiting off their non-story so we can ignore them for once and for all. source
