Sports: When we grow up someday, we want to be Chad Ochocinco

  • Chad Ochocinco is pretty much the biggest showoff ever, but in this video he kind of outdoes all those usual showoff tendencies by doing something genuinely awesome. The wide receiver kicked an extra point in a preseason game. Awesome, bro!source

Biz: We really don’t lean either way on the Whole Foods debate

  • A lot of people have been paying a premium for the Whole Foods brand for years. A lot of people are sad to look at this corporation and see that it is just like any other, if not worse.
  • “Boycott Whole Foods” group founder Mark Rosenthal • Discussing the brand that set off a healthy round of Internet rage over the last week and a half. Since it launched, the group has gotten thousands of granola-eating hippie types in its grasp, angry that John Mackey, the guy who founded the company which they rely on for organic food, is actually a libertarian who doesn’t support universal health care. Personally, we feel like, while both sides have a point and Mackey should’ve kept his mouth shut, this debate is just getting more play now because the debate over universal health care has gotten so out of hand. Sigh. • source

Culture: This Ryan Jenkins case is looking like a real mess for VH1

  • Previous charges Despite the fact that the network’s production company for reality shows supposedly performs background checks on its contestants, they didn’t pull up a conviction for assault which led to probation. He got arrested in April, too. And he went to counseling for sex addiction. Not the kinda guy you want on a VH1 show. source

  • Another show Even worse for the network, Jenkins had recently shot a second still-unaired show called “I Love Money 3,” which features reality contestants from other VH1 shows. It may never see the light of day. Now isn’t looking like a bad time for the network to return to 60-hour Behind the Music marathons. source

Music: Dwight from “The Office” came up with Weezer’s new album title

  • He has a super-rock persona. When it came time to find a title for the Weezer album, I asked him what he thought the ultimate album title would be and he said ‘Raditude.’
  • Weezer frontman RIvers Cuomo • Discussing Rainn Wilson’s role in creating the kinda-lame, kinda awesome title for “Raditude,” the next mediocre album from Weezer. We can see this title working if Rainn Wilson is saying it. But nobody else. • source

Tech: Apple’s all like, we didn’t deny that Google Voice iPhone app yet

  • They say it might confuse users. Despite the fact that 1) It’s already being used elsewhere, 2) It’s a Google app and 3) There’s extreme criticism from end users over the app’s denial, Apple is still debating the Google Voice app. It wrote in its letter to the FCC that the app replaces “the iPhone’s core mobile telephone functionality and Apple user interface with its own user interface for telephone calls, text messaging and voice mail.” Duh. One other note: Apple apparently doesn’t discuss apps with AT&T, as was feared, but agreed not to allow VOIP apps like Skype. The FCC’s looking into that, too. source
