Politics: Obama Joker posters take over L.A. because change is so 2008

We have another suggestion to put at the bottom of these posters: Lame. Vitriol didn’t get Obama into office, kids. It won’t get him out. source

  • THESE PHOTOS ARE AMAZING! There’s Obama’s plane! And the Statue of Liberty! And off-camera, thousands of pissed off New Yorkers scared out of their wits by a plane flying in the middle of the city! source

U.S.: Obama hands out Presidential Medal of Freedom to 16 famous peeps

  • Talk about vip. Obama announced the 16 recipients of the 2009 Presidential Medal of Freedom today. Among those to get America’s highest civilian honor: Stephen Hawking, Ted Kennedy, Harvey Milk and Sidney Poitier. I know, right? Pretty exclusive. We have to keep working on that cure for cancer, then maybe we’ll have a chance. source

U.S.: Wheelin’ + Dealin’: Concessions made to push through health care

  • If your business makes less than $500,000, you don’t have to provide insurance for workers. Before, the barrier was $250,000. source
  • If you’re poor and paying premiums, you can now get subsidies after paying 12% of your income for premiums. Before, it was just 11%. source
  • Medical providers (like doctors) will work with the Secretary of Health and Human Services on rates, instead of rates being tied to Medicare. source
  • The public health plan won’t be the only option states can offer – a co-op medical plan is in the works. Details are currently being hashed out. source
  • Medicaid isn’t completely on the federal government’s back anymore – in the updated deal, states will help pay for it, too. source

U.S.: Yo Obama: Bud Light sucks. Use this microbrew instead.

  • We’re reaching out quietly… We’re trying to network our way in. We’d love to be the beer at this event.
  • Harpoon Brewery co-founder Dan Kenary • On the company’s desire to use back-door channels to convince the powers that be to use his beer during the anticipated photo-op meeting between the president, Henry Louis Gates and James Crowley, the cop who arrested the Harvard scholar. The other two guys have a little taste – Gates will be reppin’ Red Stripe and Crowley has been known to dig Blue Moon, but President Obama for some reason insists on drinking Budweiser. Dude. We know you can do better. • source

U.S.: Obama sez he jumped the gun on those Cambridge arrest comments

  • I think I unfortunately gave an impression that I was maligning the Cambridge Police Department or Sgt. Crowley specifically, and I could have calibrated those words differently.
  • President Barack Obama • In a statement where he sorta took back lots of the stuff he said about the arrest of scholar Henry Louis Gates in Cambridge, Massachusetts. If you forgot, Obama said the police “acted stupidly” and pointed out that minorities are stopped more often by police, which kinda stirred a lot of s*** up and managed to overshadow that entire prime-time health care press conference.  • source

Politics: The Obama “birther” movement gets an iconic smackdown video

  • Chris Matthews pulls no punches in laying the smacketh down on Republican Congressman John Campbell, who’s co-sponsoring a bill requiring presidential candidates to provide U.S. birth certificates. However, this video doesn’t put the issue to rest for some, as the YouTube comments clearly question Obama’s Certificate of Live Birth. We’re convinced this issue won’t die simply.source

Biz, U.S.: Small businesses feel a little shafted by Obama’s bailout plans

  • Most of the help has been in the form of supporting loans, but we’re not looking for loans right now. We’re not looking to heavily invest in equipment. We’re just trying to keep our doors open.
  • Kelli Glasser, president of Dayton, Oh.-based Exhibit Concepts • On the struggles she’s faced in trying to keep her small business alive during the recession. CIT Group’s near-collapse after the government chose not to bail them out left many small businesses in danger of being unable to leave their doors open. And while large companies get all the headlines, small companies still make up 99.7 of ALL employers in the U.S. • source
