Politics: Harold Ford decides not screwing with N.Y. Senate election smart

  • After giving it considerable thought and talking it over with his wife, he reached the conclusion that he would not be running, although he said he would like to remain active in the Democratic Party here.
  • New York Assemblyman Vito Lopez • Regarding Harold Ford’s decision not to take on Kirsten Gillibrand in the New York Senate race. Ford hasn’t exactly made himself a lot of friends when attempting his Senate run, making himself sound like an idiot on multiple occasions, all of which have been covered at length on Gawker. In fact, some might argue that Gawker singlehandedly ruined Ford’s chances by publicizing his stupid moves. Including us. Yeah, we said it. OK, we’ll give Harry some credit too. source

Politics: Can David Paterson lead after all this crap he’s been dealt?

Here, a bunch of New York’s black leaders discuss helping the governor. Problem: 2nd from left has an ethics scandal of his own, and far right is Al Sharpton. source

U.S.: Dear David Paterson: Thanks for finally listening to us

  • He’s not running for re-election, but he’s not resigning, either. A day after The New York Times broke some crazy crap about him (just days after they broke some other, more general, crazy crap about him), the pressure finally got to be a little much for the New York governor and now he’s finally out. Great. source

U.S.: David Paterson’s staff also personally fraught with scandal

  • I’m glad you’re doing this, because I thought it was going to be swept under the table because he’s like a government official, and I have problems even calling the police because the state troopers kept calling me and harassing me to drop the charges, and I wouldn’t.
  • A woman accusing an aide of New York Gov. David Paterson of domestic abuse • Speaking at Family Court proceedings. The aide, David W. Johnson, reportedly has a history of altercations with women, and has now been suspended without pay. The reason this case is such a huge deal? Johnson – and Paterson himself – reportedly overstepped his bounds of power and got the State Police to pressure the woman do drop her case. That’s really bad, and Paterson has been quick to react in the wake of the fresh scandal. source

Politics: We’d like to correct David Paterson’s reelection run speech

  • There’s so many people saying, ‘you shouldn’t run for governor.’ But you need to know this is a governor who does not quit will not win.
  • New York Gov. David Paterson • Who brushed off a New York Times article which should have been murder for his reelection chances to announce his plans today. Paterson, who is unpopular in his state, faces a challenge in the Democratic primary from Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, who, like the last attorney general (Eliot Spitzer) has bolstered his rep in that position. Paterson, on the other hand, is trying to use his underdog status – he has just $3 million in the bank, which is anemic for a gubernatorial campaign – to his advantage. Good luck with that, bro. This ain’t no movie comeback story where the underdog wins. source

Politics: Duh: The New York Times says David Paterson sucks at his job

Dude doesn’t do anything. He’s worse than Eliot Spitzer ever was. He ignored a huge plane crash in Buffalo. He sucks. Don’t run again, dude. source

This Brooklyn apartment looks kinda nice until you realize it’s 178 square feet. And at $944 a month, it’s probably the best apartment you can get for the price. source

U.S.: Laughable, scandal-ridden N.Y. Gov. David Paterson isn’t leaving office

Know that George W. Bush sign that says “Miss Me Yet?” Replace Dubya with Eliot Spitzer and we bet most New Yorkers would agree. source
