The bands so far: Some of the bands already on board for the July 17-19 fest – which has only been partly announced – are killer. The first night is full of classic indie rockers like Built to Spill and Yo La Tengo. Day two boasts more recent indie faves like our current musical crush The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. And day three already boasts The Walkmen and Grizzly Bear. Sounds amazing. source

A cool new idea: The last few years of the fest have featured All Tomorrow’s Parties-sponsored shows featuring such luminaries as Public Enemy playing their greatest albums in full. But this year, they’ll allow fans to vote for what the bands play in their setlists. Want to hear Yo La Tengo play nothing but stuff from “I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One”? Or more recent stuff? Your vote counts! source
I don’t know why people put up with it. I wouldn’t put up with it. I don’t care if it’s Arcade Fire or Brian Eno. If either of them walked into a room and treated people like (*&% I’d be like, ‘%*%& you, get outta here.’
Wayne Coyne • In a Rolling Stone interview where he ripped everyone’s favorite indie band a new one. Coyne has a history of this – he famously ripped Beck a while back. Arcade Fire lead singer Win Butler responded by saying he played with the Lips over three years ago when the band was jet-lagged. “I am not sure Wayne is the best judge,” Butler wrote. • source
These guys are my brothers. We’ve grown up together over the past twenty years. I love them and wish them all the best in the future.
Steven Page • In a note on the band’s Web site. Page will go solo, and the rest of the band will continue as a quartet. Page has had some personal drama lately, including an arrest and plea deal on cocaine charges – just before the band was going on tour to support a kids’ album. Oof. We admit, this is near and dear to our hearts because BNL was one of our favorite bands in high school. Sigh. Our cred’s gone. • source
A former XXL Magazine editor says yes.The Huffington Post, which exploded in popularity in the last year, is perhaps an odd model for a hip-hop Web site, but Elliott Wilson says RapRadar.com can pull it off. The site, which launches March 9, will attempt to combine the worlds of blog gossip and news, just like HuffPo. And it helps that the mag has cred and money behind it: Eminem’s manager, Paul Rosenberg, is backing it, and Wilson is publishing an authorized bio of Jay-Z next year. So he can probably get those guest celebrity columns, too. source
The ban includes: Music that depicts sexual acts. Music that glorifies gun violence, murder, rape or arson. Music that features “daggering” – a popular dance style with lots of sex-like pelvic thrusts. Like we said. Just about everything good. What’s good Jamacian dancehall song without a little arson? source
