Culture: TMZ said Maya Angelou was in the hospital. They were wrong. Ha!

  • They’re usually right about these sorts of things. From scooping every other mainstream media outlet by hours on Michael Jackson’s death to getting the photo of the Rihanna after the attack by Chris Brown, they usually nail the facts. But not this time. Word is that Angelou, who they said was rushed to an L.A. hospital, wasn’t even in L.A. at the time. Good job, goobers. source

Culture: An apology to Jay Leno, and an update on his condition

  • Dear Jay, We realize it’s not your fault that you’re not funny. And shouldn’t bring light to it every time we post. Sometimes, we just need to leave it alone and get out the news. There’s a limit to how catty we should be. And in the future, if something bad happens to you, we’ll hold our tongue while posting about it. Sorry for being so mean, man. source

  • Anyway … Leno, the talk show host getting replaced by Conan O’Brien in a couple of months, then moved into prime-time, apparently was suffering from dehydration when he was taken to the hospital yesterday. It was not a sign of anything more dangerous, nor was work particularly stressful. Friday’s show also got cancelled. source

U.S.: A reporter clashes with the VA over veteran interviews

  • He was forced to hand over his equipment. WTF? David Schultz, a reporter for American University’s WAMU-FM, went to a town hall meeting for minority veterans at a VA hospital in D.C. on Tuesday. But when he asked a patient some questions, a VA public affairs officer told Schultz to stop, claiming the interview was illegal. The officer then got police, who confiscated his equipment. The VA hospital claims that Schultz did not follow proper procedure, but relented and agreed to give back his equipment. source

  • He’s in trouble Powell was placed on administrative leave. His boss, Dallas Police Chief David Knuckle, put it best: “It’s hard to find the right word and still be professional in my role as the police chief. But the behavior was not appropriate.” We recommend “@$$hole.” source
