Politics: Gettin’ angry like a Republican: Alan Grayson’s “die quickly” rant

  • Wow, bro. Wow. We must say, we don’t like this one bit; it screams stooping to the other side’s level, and our country already has enough scare tactics. We expect Grayson to be minced into little pieces on Fox News any day now.source

U.S., World: The next diplomacy frontier: Climate change in unstable regions

  • I’ve been making this argument for a number of years, but it has not been a focus because a lot of people had not connected the dots.
  • Democratic Sen. John Kerry, who chairs the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee • Regarding climate change and the effect it could have on the world’s stability. Some regions, such as sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia – areas which already could be considered among the world’s more unstable – could face rising tides, droughts, food crises and other problems as a result of global warming. Recent war games have suggested this, and the U.S. is considering how it will handle these issues down the road. • source

U.S.: Alec Baldwin expresses his desire to run for public office…in Playboy

  • I’d love to run against Joe Lieberman. I have no use for him.
  • Actor and Democrat Alec Baldwin • On who his dream opponent would be if he ever entered the political arena. In a new interview with Playboy, the 30 Rock star teased for the kajillionth time that he might run for public office – but this time he was more specific, saying he might end up somewhere in New York…if he ends up anywhere, that is.  • source

Letter to Leon Panetta

Politics, U.S.: Fox News mixes paper and plastic when it takes out the trash

Just ’cause you don’t like something a Republican did (in this case, Mark Sanford) doesn’t automatically make him a Democrat. source

U.S.: That N.Y. state senate cluster^*#& is becoming a bigger one

  • One of the defectors says there isn’t enough Democratic support. Hiram Monserrate, one of the two guys responsible for leaving the Democratic-led New York State Senate majority in favor of a Republican-led one, walked out abruptly tonight, saying that there wasn’t enough support for the change and he needed to recruit more Democrats to help. So, which one of your alienated fellow party members are you going to hit up first, Hiram? Hope, like this guy, you like rejection. source

Politics, U.S.: New Democrat Arlen Specter’s now getting it from both sides

  • There’s too much doubt in my mind not to have the intent right now to get in this race, pending just a little time with my family to make sure we’re all together.
  • Pennsylvania Rep. Joe Sestak • Who seems ready to take on longtime Republican Senator Arlen Specter, who recently switched to the Democratic party, in the primaries. Specter, if you remember, switched parties in part because he was afraid he would lose the Republican primaries. Ah, giant nebulous areas. You gotta love ’em. • source

U.S.: Specter goes from senior Republican to junior Democrat

  • His defection came at the cost of committee rankings. Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter, whose switch to the Democratic party sent shockwaves through D.C. last week, did so at the cost of hard-fought-for seniority. The senate passed a resolution last night making him the junior Democrat on all the committees he serves. A rep for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says he could gain his seniority back after the 2010 elections. But still … it’s like, welcome to the party, jerk. source
