Culture: Classy: A Thai newspaper prints David Carradine death photos

  • His family is very upset about the photos. Body photos of Carradine, who might’ve died in a disturbing, accidental way, were apparently shown in a Thai newspaper. His family, clearly upset, has threatened to sue. Beyond the photos, Carradine’s family asked for assistance from the FBI in the case. Lawyer Mark Geragos, who works for David’s brother Keith, explains: “All we really know is not much more than what the public knows, and that’s disturbing.” source

World: Bodies have been found from the Brazilian plane crash. Sigh.

  • Also found: A seat and suitcase from the Air France jet. Sigh. We knew this was coming, but man, seeing the phrase “bodies” running across a CNN Breaking News Alert is pretty tough to stomach. But at least we’ve confirmed finding something from the crash. source

Culture: Your eyes might bulge after hearing how David Carradine might’ve died

  • Startling reports Carradine, whose death was initially reported to be a suicide, got a bit more complicated with reports that he was hanging by his genitals as well as his neck, in what might have been an act of autoerotic asphyxiation. source

  • What is it? Autoerotic asphyxiation, for those of us a bit more pure and with sensitive ears, involves preventing oxygen from getting to the brain to improve sexual pleasure. In case it sounds like playing with fire, it kind of is. Protip: Never do this. Ever. source

  • Historical context Carradine would not be the only one to die of this way. Former INXS singer Michael Hutchence was widely believed to have died in a similar way when he was found dead in his Sydney, Austrailia hotel in 1997. source

World: A sad ending to the Air France missing plane saga

  • The last bit of hope that we had no longer exists … Before a lot of us were hoping that the plane could have landed on an island or something like that, but no more.
  • Aldair Gomes • Whose son was on the Air France plane that went missing earlier this week. The Brazilian army found the wreckage earlier today, and later confirmed what was likely but feared: The plane crashed into the middle of the Atlantic Ocean in bad weather, and everyone on board – 228 people – probably died. It’s the worst tragedy in Air France’s 75-year history. • source
