» And yes, there’s a lawsuit: During the period, Dell sold all these crappy computers to major companies, some of which were brought to their knees by their hardware failures. They were caused by capacitor failures that affected the industry at large. However, Dell never issued a recall and, worse, KNOWINGLY SOLD the defective machines in an effort to save as much money as possible. The company has set aside $100 million to pay any potential settlement over the crappy black boxes, and already took a $300 million charge to repair the machines in 2005. Ever wonder why your work computers broke so easily a while back? This is why.
Pope Benedict XVI got ganked in a fall while on vacation. The world’s holiest guy (well, depending on your religion – for example, Rainn Wilson doesn’t swing that way) was injured while hanging out in his chalet in the mountainous Valle d’Aosta region of Italy. Vatican spokesman suggests it’s “nothing serious,” and the dude was able to eat a little breakfast and have mass before he went to the hospital. Though, we just have to wonder: Does el Popearino have killer health insurance? If not, he should. source
Guy named Dave Carroll rides an airplane with his band. Dude checks his $3,500 guitar. United’s baggage-handling staff manhandles said guitar, and a number of people on board see them do it. Guitar is broken. United, despite breaking it, won’t pay for the damages. Guy writes song about it and puts video on YouTube, giving him instant good (and United instant bad) exposure. Who’s really the loser here?source
