World: Journalists nearly on board deadly Polish plane crash

  • Russia Today has totally owned this story, by the way. In this clip, one journalist notes that he barely missed being a part of this deadly, awful plane crash himself. The plane was mostly filled with Polish political elite headed to Russia; the journalists had to take another flight that didn’t crash. They totally escaped death. Scary.

Biz: Odd: Toyota couldn’t make that guy’s runaway Prius run away

  • They suggest that he might’ve been lying. Last week’s uber-bizarre story, the guy whose Prius had a stuck gas pedal and was talked to safety by police, may get even weirder. Apparently, technicians have been playing with the guy’s car and have not been able to replicate the circumstances that created the incident. Driver Jim Sikes says that he stands behind his story, BTW. source

U.S.: Six killed after tour bus rolls over near Phoenix

  • Jesus, that looks awful. This crash, which definitely shook the riders of this bus awake, took place at 5:27 a.m. PST just south of Phoenix. Beyond the six riders killed, the other fifteen passengers were taken to local hospitals, including five with injuries so severe that they had to be transported by helicopter. Our prayers go out to the people riding on this bus. source

Culture: Whale advocate: Sea World forgot it was called a “killer” whale

  • They didn’t seem to learn any lessons from the incidents. They knew it was capable of killing a human being.
  • Whale advocate Captain Paul Watson • Discussing the killer whale attack which took place at an Orlando Sea World today (and pretty much chewed up the airwaves all afternoon). As a result, the Shamu show is canceled for tomorrow at least. That may not be enough, according to Watson, who notes that Tilikum, the whale in question, has had anger problems dating back to the early ’90s, and was involved in an incident that led to the closing of a Canadian theme park, Sealand. Watson suggests the 12,000-pound whale get returned to its natural waters: “Put it back where they got it from: the waters of Victoria, British Columbia.” source
