  • bad Newark Airport had a huge kerfluffle that ruined a lot of nights due to a security breach. Airline security is also the biggest topic in the news.
  • worse Not that it would’ve helped anyway, but the security cameras weren’t working in the area where the breach happened. WTF? source

U.S.: Honey flare-up: A false-positive “explosive” has travelers abuzz

  • Excuse me sir, what’s in the jar? A California airport was shut down for hours today after somebody brought some containers of honey through the security check. The substance tested positive for explosives. Really, it was just explosively delicious. Call it sweet consolation. source

  • We dodged a bullet but just barely. It was averted by brave individuals, not because the system worked, and that is not acceptable.

U.S.: Sen. Byron Dorgan, along with his 60th vote, plans to retire

  • The North Dakota senator was seen as super-vulnerable. The clock is ticking on the Democratic supermajority in the Senate, which promises to have many kinks in its armor come November. With Dorgan’s retirement, the seat will likely flip to the Republican column. Even before this, he was seen as one of the most vulnerable senators. Peace, brah. Loved the three terms. source

U.S.: Someone’s gonna get in trouble for the Newark incident

  • The TSA guy who let the security-breacher through could feel the pain. Flights may be back to normal today, but last night’s security breach at Newark Airport won’t come without consequences. While they never caught the guy, everyone did go through a checkpoint again and subsequently had their night ruined. For its part, the Transportation Security Administration says they’re trying to learn lessons from the incident. “We’re reviewing the circumstances and its totality,” said TSA spokeswoman Ann Davis. “We’ll look and see if any lessons can be learned and take further action going forward.” source

U.S.: Newark airport’s collective freak-out finally sorted out (almost)

  • There there, little girl, it’ll be OK soon, we swear. Flights at Newark Airport are finally starting to go out after hours of nightmares caused by some jerk who thought it’d be funny to skip out on security in one of the largest airports in the country. If she thinks waiting in line is bad, she could go outside and visit sunny Newark, where it’s probably freezing, the air is full of fresh-smelling chemicals,  and friendly people can’t wait to rob you. source

U.S.: Did he forget security, or worse? Newark airport lockdown in full effect

  • Everybody to the back of the line. After a passenger went through the wrong side of a checkpoint at Newark International Airport’s Terminal C, the entire terminal was shut down, causing a nightmare for passengers at best and terrorist scare at worst. We’ll keep you posted on what happens next. source
