Tech: Palm still sold Windows Mobile phones? Well, not anymore.

  • They’re going all in with WebOS. That’s what Palm CEO Jon Rubenstein, the former Apple guy who spearheaded the Pre, says. “We’ve made the decision to dedicate all future development resources to the evolution of webOS.” And honestly, while it sucks for Microsoft (it means Windows Mobile will lose even more marketplace traction), it’s a good move for Palm. Because, honestly, why fight momentum? source

Music, Tech: iTunes should pay for the sam …

  • … ple, too, the music industry says. It doesn’t matter if 30-second samples are promotional AND fair use. The music industry wants Apple to pay performance fees. They say they’re not trying to gouge, though. “People think we’re making a fortune off the Web, but it’s a tiny amount,” says Songwriters’ Guild of America president Rick Carnes. “We need multiple revenue streams or this isn’t going to work.” Critics say that Apple’s getting picked on by these groups, who they accuse of double-dipping. source

Tech: It’s a “new known issue.” Well, that’s good to know. Thanks Twitter!

  • There is nothing our users can do to fix this issue at the moment. Don’t worry though! We have not lost any of your images. They will all come back soon.
  • A status message on Twitter’s help forum regarding the disappearance of background images and avatars • Which is essentially the equivalent of saying that they spilled beer on the server. But doesn’t Twitter use the cloud? We wonder what it’d be like to spill beer on a cloud. Would it just fall through? Would it freeze? Or would it create a frosty brew? The strange things we think of when we’re waiting for our #(^(!@& avatars to return to Twitter. • source

Tech, U.S.: Apps.Gov: The government hearts cloud computing, apparently

  • If you wanted the government to tell you using Facebook is smart, here you go. Apps.Gov is the U.S. government’s attempt to give a seal of approval to cloud computing – that nebulous internet thing that most people use on a daily basis without even realizing it. What’s amusing to us, beyond the useful productivity apps that the General Services Administration offers for purchase, is that they have a whole page devoted to social media. On this page, they tell you what you’ve already known for years if you have even a minor amount of technical knowledge: Wordpress, Facebook and YouTube (but surprisingly, not Twitter) are awesome! Thanks for the tips, brah. source
