Music: Bonnaroo’s lineup is out. Judge how big your favorite band is here.

  • The headliners beat Coachella. Bruce Springsteen brings the E Street Band with him to lead the festivities. A reunited Phish, The Beastie Boys, Nine Inch Nails, Wilco and David Byrne also show up. Further down, the list includes such luminaries as TV on the Radio, Andrew Bird, Girl Talk, Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, Raphael Saadiq and Chairlift. But we’re just skimming. Check out the entire list! It beats Coachella this year! source

Music: Another type of groundhog, Sid Vicious, died 30 years ago today

  • I can’t drink, I can’t, like the doctor said if I drank anything even remotely like the way I’ve been drinking for the past however long, I’ve got six months at the absolute outside to live.
  • Sid Vicious • bassist for the Sex Pistols, on the self-destructive nature which eventually did him in on February 2, 1979. He died of a heroin overdose. • source

Music: Bruce apologizes for that whole Wal-Mart exclusive thing

  • It was a mistake. Our batting average is usually very good, but we missed that one. Fans will call you on that stuff, as it should be.
  • Bruce Springsteen • on the release of a $10 greatest hits record exclusively through Wal-Mart. Fans criticized the move, as it appeared to go against much of what his music stands for. Springsteen’s pretty busy right now; he just released a new album and will sing at the Super Bowl on Sunday. • source

Music: The Coachella lineup’s out; Macca’s a headliner?

  • Even weirder: So are the Killers. That said, this year’s lineup sounds pretty killer, with TV on the Radio, Girl Talk, Fleet Foxes, Morrissey, Leonard Cohen (!), Clipse, Lupe Fiasco, Amy Winehouse, Gaslight Anthem, Conor Oberst, Drive-By Truckers, Calexico, M. Ward, Fucked Up (hey, we’re not a newspaper, we can print that word!) and many other bands totally worth your time fronting a stage in the middle of the California desert between April 17-19. The downside, of course, is that the headliners (barring The Cure) are usually better than this. :( source

The band features Erlend Oye of Kings of Convenience. It’s dancey/jammy, but goes down smooth. source

Music: Obama’s top-secret access to a killer record collection

  • Presidents have great vinyl Back in the 1970s, the RIAA decided that the presidential library needed some records. Back in the late ’70s, they decided they needed some cool records. So, during the Carter administration, the music industry gave the president some pretty awesome 33⅓ rpm platters. But in the Reagan years, they were confined to the basement (along with some old reels of Bedtime for Bonzo, we’re sure). source

  • What’s in the collection? From classics by Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones to cult-classic platters by Captain Beefheart and Talking Heads, it’s a pretty darn cool record collection marked with a presidential seal. Most of the albums are fairly pristine and have just been sitting around untouched for 30 years. No word on whether any of the albums are worth pilfering by DJ Shadow, or if there’s any no wave in there, but we hear there’s lots of punk. source
