Culture: The voice of reason on Jon & Kate: Danny freaking Bonaduce?

  • It has nothing to with the camera. Blaming it on the show is not right. This is going to sound mean, but if the media is so concerned about the kids, then stop covering them. Then the kids won’t read it and nobody will know about it.
  • Former “Partridge Family” member/reality TV star Danny Bonaduce • Talking about the “Jon & Kate Plus 8” saga. Bonaduce says it’s not the reality TV cameras at fault with the relationship – it’s the cheating and general douchebaggery. With Jon blocking access to the family home from TLC cameras (because he’s a douchebag), it’s quite possible the show may not come back. We can only hope. • source

Culture: Jail can’t keep Roman Polanski from making movies

  • Whether the film can rise above the circumstances in which the director now finds himself I don’t know. We will test to the upper limits the notion that there’s no such thing as bad publicity.
  • Writer Robert Harris • Who is working with Roman Polanski on the upcoming film “The Ghost.” Harris says that while Polanski doesn’t have a phone, he can communicate and make decisions about the film while he’s fighting extradition. He’s totally using Skype, isn’t he? • source

Culture: Here’s why Captain Lou Albano was a great cultural icon

  • Wild and crazy guy Albano is the weirdest guy to have cultural relevance in the 80s – saying a lot considering the pop stars of the era – but the edgy delivery of everything he was involved with, even an ad for a 900 wrestling hotline , sticks with you more than an Augustana song does.

  • Straight-talker Despite spending much of the late ’80s as a kiddie icon, he never lost his edge as a wrestler. In this anti-drug PSA (done in his Mario getup), he tells kids that if you use drugs, “you go to hell before you die.” Which is an awesome thing to say to impressionable kids.

  • Kitsch icon Around 2001, Albano was sucked into Animutation, a crude, Dadaist style of Flash animation that could be seen as the precursor of much of Adult Swim’s humor style. The vocal track is real – all the stuff happening around him was made up. And boy, is it awesome.

Culture: Ralph Lauren, a model, and a bad chop: A major Photoshop scandal

Ralph Lauren lols
It must be awesome to be called fat. Especially when you're as rail-thin as Flippa Hamilton in this laughable Ralph Lauren ad. Photoshop Disasters nailed a huge scandal. Not bad, guys.
5'10", 120lb Hamilton's height and weight, which sounds pretty thin to us
size four the size deemed too big to fit into Ralph Lauren's clothing; fortunately, they can hilariously Photoshop you any way they want SOURCE

Considering the strangeness of the situation, it’s great to know that she looks like a reasonably normal human being when put on the front of a magazine. source

Culture: Ducktales sounds funnier when it’s translated into Arabic

  • It’s bizarre to think, being kids of the ’80s, that cartoon theme songs came in anything but English, but they did; and they got translated into all sorts of bizarre languages. Like this Ducktales theme song redux, which sounds hilarious. Holy Taco as a bunch more lost-in-translation moments where this came from.source
