Culture: Apparently, winning a Best Actress Oscar ruins your marriage

  • Sandra Bullock is going through hell right now. She’s been married to Jesse James, West Coast Choppers CEO and stuntman, since 2005, but it appears her marriage is publicly falling apart. As far as Best Actress Oscar winners go, she’s not alone. Here are a few examples of the Best Actress Oscar curse:
  • Halle Less than a year after winning for “Monster’s Ball,” she divorced from singer Eric Benet, who reportedly had a sex addiction.
  • Reese The “Walk the Line” star didn’t make it past seven years marriage with her husband, Ryan Phillippe, separating months after she won her Oscar.
  • Hilary The “Million Dollar Baby” star, was married to Chad Lowe for 11 years; they divorced soon after she won. (She also won for “Boys Don’t Cry.”)

It’s the sound of immense regret crashing down on a woman who’s saying to herself, “I’ve made a huge mistake.” Rielle Hunter’s GQ interview and photo spread, which is nearly as skeezy as anything Eric Massa told Glenn Beck a week ago, was not supposed to be anything like that, she told Barbara Walters. Culture: Protip: If you build an effective propaganda poster, Conan will pay you

  • Nice deal, dude! One guy who definitely deserves a payday is artist Mike Mitchell, whose “I’m With Coco” illustration is up there with Shepard Fairey’s oft-litigated Obama “Hope” poster in terms of iconic status. Mitchell licensed rights to Conan’s people for the image (currently getting used on O’Brien’s tour), and he made out with a pretty hefty payday. It’s like he won the lottery. source

Culture: The first and only time “The Marriage Ref” will ever be funny

  • OK Ricky, we admit it. We put crack in your drink. Pretty much everything about “The Marriage Ref” is stupid as heck, especially the fact that Jerry Seinfeld produced it, but at least the celebrities appearing on the show seem to realize it too. Ricky Gervais calls it “the weirdest show I’ve ever been on,” and is bewildered at his fellow celebrity guests – Larry David and Madonna. At least the celebrities agree that this show sucks. source
