Culture: Jack Bauer’s fate could get outfoxed by a peacock

  • “24” could leave Fox soon, only to show up on NBC. Could the never-ending adventures of Jack Bauer live another day? That’s the word on the street from NBC, which is itching for more dramas after that whole Jay Leno experiment went bust. Fox is thinking about canceling the show due to dipping ratings and rising costs, which would open the producers up to make Jack Bauer movies, but NBC’s gauntlet could throw a wrench in that plan. source

Culture: Corey Haim’s death blamed on … wait for it … prescription drug ring (?!)

  • Corey Haim’s death is yet another tragedy linked to the growing problem of prescription-drug abuse. This problem is increasingly linked to criminal organizations, like the illegal and massive prescription-drug ring under investigation.
  • California Attorney General (and gubernatorial candidate) Jerry Brown • Regarding the cause of Haim’s death. Despite the autopsy having left evidence of this unconnected as of yet, an unauthorized prescription note in Haim’s name was found during an unrelated investigation on prescription drug fraud – meaning, even if it wasn’t the cause (still possible), he was illegally getting his vicodin and other drugs with forged doctor’s notes. Is it us, or is Jerry Brown trying to win political points with this quote? source

Culture: Play him off, next-generation Keyboard Cat! Play him off!

  • What’s great about Keyboard Cat is that the original video is 26 years old. But that means that Fatso, the original cat, is long dead (sadly). But Charlie Schmidt’s awesome goofy video is no longer just encased in amber for all eternity. The next generation of Keyboard Cat has been introduced. Meet Bento. (Hi Bento!) See him play the keys like a king. source

Culture: The Price is Creepy: Bob Barker was a sexual harassment machine

  • “Tickie, tickie, tickie!” We do not see Drew Carey trying to get away with any of these Showcase Showdown moves. Pretty much across the board, all of these “Price is Right” moments are just a little creepy. We have to imagine over time, Bob Barker mellowed out and avoided saying explicitly sexual stuff on the air, but in these clips, he’s still fairly young and still fairly handsome. And creepy. Oh, man, is he just a massive creepbag. source

Culture: Coming to your town soon: Conan O’Brien, officially on tour

  • We’re super-excited for this. Are you? Rumored for weeks, Conan just announced on Twitter that he’s going on tour. What’s the tour called, you ask? “The Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour.” It’s gonna be awesome. And we’d pay a ton of money to see him. Teamcoco.com has been registered by Conan’s staff, by the way. source

Culture: Guess who’s returning to golf? That’s right, Tiger Woods

  • Ari Fleischer has been brought in to help ease his return. Smart move. The New York Post is reporting that the sex-scandal-laden golfer will be making his return to the links on March 25, just in time for the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Fleisher, by the way, is the guy who helped rehab Mark McGwire’s image by having him announce the whole steroids thing. Oh, and George W. Bush’s former press secretary (which means he’s qualified). He may be the smartest PR move Tiger’s ever made. source

Culture: Chuck Norris would be really old today if he hadn’t stopped time

  • It’s his 70th birthday. Here’s a “Walker, Texas Ranger” clip. OK, the Chuck Norris facts thing is kinda old, but let’s celebrate one of our greatest American fundamentalist Christian resources, a guy who can take on bears or stump for Mike Huckabee. We admit, even as crazy as he is, he’s an important part of our American junk culture. Kudos. source
