Politics: Lyndon LaRouche makes Glenn Beck look like a pacifist

Obama as a Nazi
  • The pamphlet Today, before we got on the D.C. Metro at Chinatown, we noticed that the usual Nation of Islam-types in front of the station were joined by people handing out pamphlets for the Lyndon LaRouche political action committee. And, boy, that pamphlet was a bag of crazy. He’s a crackpot, but this time he crossed the line. And we’re concerned that it’s actually getting traction. source

  • What’s inside? The cover features the photo above, a clearly-photoshopped image of Obama designed to make him look like a Nazi. And the text only sells it more: “We must emphasize the fact of his adopting a virtual carbon-copy of the Adolf Hitler health-care policies, later judged to be genocide, of September 1, 1939,” LaRouche writes. This is just evil. source

  • Our take LaRouche affiliates with the Democrats, but they don’t want him. This is why. This pamphlet argues for racism, hate, and the worst corners of our society. And based on this Google Image Search, it’s getting far too much currency. On the plus side, he’s almost 90. He’ll be dead soon, and hopefully this bile will go away along with him. source

Offbeat: This is why you should sit down on a school bus, idiots.

  • The video’s funny, but the truth is: This girl could’ve been hurt really badly because she didn’t sit down. Idiot! Next time, let us stand up instead! We’re a blog. We won’t get hurt.source

Culture, U.S.: Brad Pitt, from movie star to New Orleans mayor?

Brad Pitt for mayor
  • There’s t-shirts bearing this image already. There’s a history of Pitt doing good things for the city – convincing Frank Gehry to design houses for Hurricane Katrina victims. And there’s (tongue-in-cheek) grassroots support for the dude. He doesn’t seem interested, though. But he seems amused by the idea, though.source

Offbeat: We do this all the time when we’re at hotels, guys

  • He was a bit surprised that there were two people in his room and he was butt naked.
  • Sergeant Steve Watt of the Queenstown, Australia police • Describing the scene after a drunk, naked man barged into a hotel room that wasn’t his own and fell asleep on the bed. Sounds like someone had an interesting night. Charges weren’t pressed, by the way. • source

U.S.: “Squeaky” gets out: Wannabe Ford assassin released from prison

  • The former Manson family member was in 34 years. Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme was convicted in 1975 of attempting to shoot Gerald Ford. She pointed a gun at him, but was stopped by the Secret Service. (There wasn’t a bullet in the chamber, by the way.) She was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole but got off on good behavior and (we’re guessing) overcrowding. source

Biz: The New York Times is gonna survive the recession using wine (and cheese)

nytwineclub0814
  • If you can’t sell papers, sell wine. That seems to be the philosophy of the New York Times, which has thrown its hat into the wine club ring, playing into its rep as the snootiest print publication around. We hope the New York Post responds by starting up a hard-liquor-on-the-rocks club.source
