Politics, U.S.: Blogger Nico Pitney: Public enemy No. WHO FREAKING CARES?

  • That’s right. I wanted to use this opportunity to ask you a question directly from an Iranian.
  • Huffington Post blogger Nico Pitney • Being asked a question by President Barack Obama. Pitney is getting lots of criticism because apparently he knew Obama would be calling on him, despite the fact that, well, he asked a question that wasn’t pre-screened and was merely planned (from an Iranian citizen). Yeah. This is clearly as bad as the Jeff Gannon situation a while back. Nothing to see here, folks. • source

World: Key sentence from this Iran protest story that should anger you

  • It was impossible to confirm first-hand the extent of the new violence in the capital because of draconian new press restrictions on coverage of the post-election mayhem.
  • New York Times reporters Nazila Fathi and Alan Cowell • In a story about the latest rash of Iranian violence. Hundreds of protesters fought with riot police today and at least some people were confirmed dead in the melee. This is just getting awful, awful, awful. • source

U.S.: Where in the world was Carmen Sandi … Mark Sanford? Argentina

  • Dude wasn’t in the Appalachians on Naked Hiking Day. This story had already taken a turn for the bizarre when we covered it yesterday, but now it’s switched from bizarre to awesome. South Carolina governor Mark Sanford, earlier reported to be chilling in the same spot as a buncha naked hikers, was instead chillin’ in Buenos Aires, Argentina – which just so happened to be the first place we looked for him. In other news, his Lt. Governor, Andre Bauer (sadly, not Andre Braugher) is fuming mad and wants to talk to Mr. Exotic RIGHT NOW AAARGH RAGE! source

Tech: Web designers hate Outlook so much, they’re creating cool protests

outlook0624
  • Beyond the very valid reason for the protest (Dear Microsoft: PLEASE FOLLOW STANDARDS!), the technology running this site is immaculate (that background is dynamic). On the plus side, if everyone switches over to Google Wave, this will not be a problem. Dear FixOutlook.org: Give this technology to the Iran protesters. Now.source

U.S.: D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty: Blame us for the Metro crash

  • We do have an independent train system… [but] let’s not try and disperse the blame. Let’s put it on the decision makers and the leaders.
  • Adrian Fenty • Speaking this morning on “Good Morning America,” taking blame for Monday’s D.C. Metro crash, which killed nine people. The cause of the crash appears to be faulty, outdated equipment which wasn’t replaced when recommended, as the train driver (who was also killed) did press the emergency brake and there were were automatic mechanisms in place that should have prevented the crash. The fact that Fenty is so willing to put his neck out is bold. • source
