Offbeat: How does it feel? Kinda blah; today is Blue Monday.

  • The saddest day in history? Experts say that a number of things – fading memories of Christmas and New Year’s, the cruddy weather, but especially the economy – make January 19, 2009 the saddest day on record. They claim that many people will stay home from work and many more will stay in bed. Hey! Just ’cause we’re typing this in bed doesn’t mean we’re depressed! source

Culture: Do they really want to hurt Boy George? They made him cry.

  • When I walked into the cell I saw this fat, bald bloke sitting in the corner crying like a baby. He was shaking like a leaf, a total wreck. He kept sobbing over and over, ‘I can’t go to jail – I’ll be killed.’
  • Richard Lyttle • A British man who shared a jail cell with former pop star Boy George. George was sentenced to 15 months for false imprisonment of a male escort. We admit, this whole incident makes us feel a little grimy on the outside. • source

No longer. Slowly but surely, YouTube is adding links to some of its videos allowing you to download them easily. Fans of open information, such as Lawrence Lessig, are applauding the move. source

  • Obama’s vids the first YouTube is starting with copyright-free videos. As a result, the first videos picked for the honor were from Barack Obama’s ChangeDotGov channel. Check Obama’s January 17th weekly address for an example. (On a side note, how cool is it that we’ve evolved from “fireside chats” to YouTube weekly addresses?) source
