Culture: Etta James to Beyonce: Don’t mess with my signature song!

  • That woman he had singing for him … she’s gonna get her %*# whipped. The great Beyonce … I can’t stand Beyonce.
  • Etta James • at a concert last week in Seattle. James is upset that Beyonce sang her signature song, “At Last,” during Barack Obama’s first dance. Beyonce actually portrayed the legendary singer in last year’s “Cadillac Records,” and James had nothing but nice things to say about her back then. James also trashed the president, but we’re guessing she’s just upset at him for this dramabomb. • source

U.S.: No do-overs. Well, except for the presidential oath.

  • Can’t take chances, y’know. After a notably profound flub during Barack Obama’s presidential inauguration (on Chief Justice John Roberts’ part, by the way), the president didn’t take any chances, and went through the oath again today. Asked if he was ready, Obama said, “Yes, I am. And we’re going to do it very slowly.” There were no repeats of the flub. In case you were wondering, the flub did not affect Obama’s hold on the office. source

U.S.: How are Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd doing?

  • Kennedy’s in the hospital Ted Kennedy had a seizure, but he’s OK and should be out of the hospital soon. Doctors say the seizure was brought on by “simple fatigue,” not anything scarier than that. Phew.
  • Byrd? Pssh, he was fine Robert Byrd’s staff claims he was in fact not sick, but he just left the luncheon. The 91-year-old Byrd, however, “remains very concerned about his close friend, Ted Kennedy,” said spokesman Mark Ferrell. source
