Politics: This SNL Sarah Palin sketch is a lot funnier in retrospect, guys

  • This clip somehow got funnier a year and a couple months later, especially in the context of the line from Tina Fey’s version of Sarah Palin: “If I’m not going to the White House I’m either running in four years or I’m going to be a white Oprah.” In the context of the Palin/Fox News announcement today, it’s even more striking. source

Culture: Charles Barkley as Alicia Keys: An SNL promo better than the show

  • Empire State of Mind, indeed. During last night’s NFL playoff game, a preview for SNL – featuring Charles Barkley as host and Alicia Keys as the musical guest, hit. And oh man, is it something. Barkley, with that drunk driving incident well behind him, did his best Alicia Keys, and wow, was it something. Never do this again, Sir Charles.

Music: Why “I Wish It Was Christmas Today” is an anthem for the ages

  • It was perhaps the best sketch Jimmy Fallon’s ever done. It was perhaps Horatio Sanz’s shining moment. And it’s definitely the best part of Strokes singer Julian Casablancas’ solo career thus far. So why not shake off that dusty SNL Christmas classic, “I Wish It was Christmas Today,” and share it with a whole new audience? Hells yeah. source

Politics: McCain staffer e-mails contradict Sarah Palin’s “Going Rogue”

palinsnl1115
  • In Sarah Palin’s “Going Rogue,” the former Vice Presidential candidate says she strongly supported the idea of going on SNL to refute Tina Fey’s spot-on impression of her. But that’s not what this e-mail, obtained by The Huffington Post from McCain staffers, suggests. There are other examples, but it appears “Going Rogue” is getting fact-checked by the press before it’s even out. source

Politics: Max headroom: SNL parodies Fox News, Lindsey Graham goes DOA

  • Health care DOA? On “Face the Nation” today, Sen. Lindsey Graham trashed the health care bill like he was throwing it in a compactor and then burning it. Pulling no punches, he said it was DOA and had no chance of passing in the Senate. Harsh words.

  • His district’s needsJoseph Cao’s biggest sticking point was abortion; with that decided, he made a “decision of conscience” based on his low-income district’s needs. Cao’s district covers areas of New Orleans heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

  • Fox News farceLast night, “Saturday Night Live” had one of the best Fox News parodies we’ve seen. Best quote comes from “Karl Rove”: “Let’s not forget that it was under HIS watch that we lost the King of Pop.” And “Glenn Beck” is pretty dead-on too.

Culture: Tracy Morgan: Not much nice to say about former “SNL” castmates

  • None of the cast I came up with saw this future for me. All I have to say about that is, where’s Chris Kattan now? Where’s Cheri Oteri now? That b—- can’t even get arrested.
  • Tracy Morgan • Describing how he largely felt misunderstood by his “Saturday Night Live” castmates. Not Tina Fey, though, who he co-stars with on “30 Rock”: “Tina wasn’t scared to come into my world and find the funny up in there. She’s that kind of cool,” he wrote in his upcoming book, “I Am the New Black,” which sounds like the kind of book Tracy Morgan would write. • source

Culture: Remember SNL alum Chris Kattan? Now he’s gone Bollywood

The guy known for the stupid characters that don’t talk on “Saturday Night Live” is on IFC playing an actor who gambles his career on Bollywood. source

Culture: MacGruber! Making a movie out of household materials! MacGruber!

  • Will Forte reveals that our favorite SNL sketch is going big-screen. Conan may be been getting all of the headlines for “The Tonight Show,” but SNL star Will Forte was causing some commotion of his own on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon”: They’re making a MacGruber movie! “John Solomon, Jorma Taccone, and I just finished writing it,” he said. “We’re gonna make it in Albuquerque. It’s me and Kirsten Wiig and cast to be determined.” YES! source
