Sports: St. Louis Rams bidders rushing to get away from Rush Limbaugh

  • It has become clear that his involvement in our group has become a complication and a distraction to our intentions; endangering our bid to keep the team in St. Louis.
  • St. Louis Blues owner Dave Checketts • On the decision to dump the talk show host from his group bidding on the future of the St. Louis Rams. The criticism of the host’s possible ownership of an NFL franchise reached a fever pitch earlier this week, to the point where commissioner Roger Goodell addressed the situation. The barking points revolved around remarks he’s made about Donovan McNabb, Michael Vick and black players in general that seemed racist to many. For Checketts’ part, he says Limbaugh was only a minor partner. • source

Politics, Sports: Rush Limbaugh owning the St. Louis Rams: It’s a racial thing

  • I don’t want anything to do with a team that he has any part of. He can do whatever he wants, it is a free country. But if it goes through, I can tell you where I am not going to play.
  • New York Giants defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka • Explaining why he wouldn’t play for Rush Limbaugh as a St. Louis Ram, specifically saying his comments about white kids “getting beat up on the bus while black kids are chanting ‘right on'” are racist. Limbaugh is one of the investors trying to buy the team, which quickly went from one of the NFL’s best teams to one of its worst. 24 of the NFL’s 32 teams need to approve the still-in-early-stages bid if it goes through, so Limbaugh better hope that he has a lot of friends among the 32 owners. • source

Culture: “The Cleveland Show”: Is it racist? Here’s someone arguing that

  • I wonder about the black people who did bother to tune into ‘The Cleveland Show’ debut. Were we so busy laughing that we failed to realize the joke was on us?
  • Jasmyne Cannick • Discussing, in an article on Alternet, why she sees Seth MacFarlane’s “Family Guy” spinoff as a collection of racist, misogynist jokes which really aren’t all that funny. Cannick further argues that with the election of Obama, and the improved image of black people that came along with it, “Fox’s debut of the ‘The Cleveland Show’ is nothing more than a desperate and stealth attempt to work against the improved international image of black people.” Do you agree? • source

Politics: Another ex-prez, Bill Clinton, tackles the Obama racism question

  • If you look at some of the signs, listen some of the rhetoric, there’s no question that’s true. But I believe if he were not an African-American, all the people who were against him on health care who would still be against him. Because they were against me too. He believes that.
  • Former President Bill Clinton • Discussing whether the tone of the health care debate was brought on by racism against Obama. Clinton’s answer is perhaps a bit better than Jimmy Carter’s. He attacks the racism on a general level, but isn’t fooled into thinking that’s the only reason why the Obama administration is getting attacked on health care. • source

Politics: Tee time: Did Roy Blunt, R-MO, just compare Obama to a monkey?

The Republican congressman’s words: “You have to play the ball where the monkey throws it. And that is the rule in Washington all the time.” Oof. source

Politics: Jimmy Carter gets no media frenzy backup from Obama’s crew

  • We understand that people have disagreements with some of the decisions that we’ve made and some of the extraordinary actions that had to be undertaken by this administration.
  • White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs • On ex-president Jimmy Carter’s assertion that the current political climate is created by Obama’s race. Even if they did agree, it’s not like they’re going to out and say it – the administration’s already bloodthirsty opponents might get their teeth out and start biting. • source

Politics: Jimmy Carter: Calling Obama-haters racist, playing with fire

  • This, my friends, is going to create a major storm of controversy. You have a former president calling most of Obama’s opponents racist. By the middle of next week, he’s going to be dismantled, just like ACORN.source

Politics: Lyndon LaRouche makes Glenn Beck look like a pacifist

Obama as a Nazi
  • The pamphlet Today, before we got on the D.C. Metro at Chinatown, we noticed that the usual Nation of Islam-types in front of the station were joined by people handing out pamphlets for the Lyndon LaRouche political action committee. And, boy, that pamphlet was a bag of crazy. He’s a crackpot, but this time he crossed the line. And we’re concerned that it’s actually getting traction. source

  • What’s inside? The cover features the photo above, a clearly-photoshopped image of Obama designed to make him look like a Nazi. And the text only sells it more: “We must emphasize the fact of his adopting a virtual carbon-copy of the Adolf Hitler health-care policies, later judged to be genocide, of September 1, 1939,” LaRouche writes. This is just evil. source

  • Our take LaRouche affiliates with the Democrats, but they don’t want him. This is why. This pamphlet argues for racism, hate, and the worst corners of our society. And based on this Google Image Search, it’s getting far too much currency. On the plus side, he’s almost 90. He’ll be dead soon, and hopefully this bile will go away along with him. source

Biz, Politics: The campaign to kill Glenn Beck’s advertisers is kinda working

  • Former advertisers
    1. State Farm
    2. Lawyers.com
    3. Procter & Gamble
    4. Progressive
    5. S.C. Johnson
    6. GEICO
    7. Men’s Wearhouse
    8. Sargento
Beck’s advertiser list has been cut significantly after an orchestrated campaign to attack the Fox News talk-show yakker for comments like those in the video above. And it’s had an effect. Thanks to left-leaning organizations like Media Matters taking Beck to task for racist and/or below-the-belt attacks on Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi, these advertisers are now out.source

Politics: Crazy town hall moment of the day: Rosa Parks + ripped poster

  • The video
  • The recap A black woman is sitting at a town hall hosted by Claire McCaskill yesterday. A reporter, whose interest has been piqued, checks out her Rosa Parks poster. Some guy sees the poster, steals it from the woman, and rips it up. Guess who gets booed and taken outside? Obvious question: How is this not racism? At some point, you have to watch these videos and shake your head. This is democracy? This isn’t people just being jerks? source
