Offbeat: A few Navy guys put their twist on “I’m On a Boat”

  • In a few comments, some are criticizing these Navy guys for actually daring to have a little fun when they’re stuck in the middle of the ocean working. We don’t see that problem at all. In fact, we hope that they’re doing this instead of working, because they look so hard in this video that you can’t imagine any pirates would dare come up to their boat. (Props to The Lonely Island for the original, of course.)source

Politics: Did Flickr take down the Obama socialist pic for political reasons?

  • An article on Firas Alkhateeb, the man who did the Obama Joker parody, got written in the L.A. Times. He’s a Dennis Kucinich fan. source

Politics: The guy who made the Obama Joker riff: Dennis Kucinich fan

Firas Alkhateeb didn’t do the Obama “Socialism” poster, but he created the Time cover off of which it was based. His problem with Obama? No substance. source

Culture: In a world of bizarre porn parodies, this TMZ one takes the cake

  • Ron Jeremy as Harvey Levin. No, really. Obviously, we’re a safe for work site and we’re not linking to a porn site, but we’d be terrible at our job if we didn’t inform you of the existence of TMSlease, a parody of TMZ (and celebrity culture in general) which takes a look at gossip culture through porn. Ron Jeremy, by the way, does a great Harvey Levin parody. (The link leads to Gawker, BTW.) source

Politics: Obama Joker posters take over L.A. because change is so 2008

We have another suggestion to put at the bottom of these posters: Lame. Vitriol didn’t get Obama into office, kids. It won’t get him out. source

Culture: Fred Willard, that icon of cheese, has work again – on YouTube!

  • Willard, known his killer roles in Christopher Guest mock-docs, isn’t above doing ad work, and honestly we wouldn’t have it any other way, considering how awesome these FedEx infomercial parodies are.source

Culture: The divorce entrance is just as good as the wedding entrance

  • As we noted before, Chris Brown is a lucky bastard. People are actually watching his music – virally – with zero worry about the Rihanna incident. This parody of the phenomenon isn’t as amazing as the original but it’s still worth writing home about.source

Offbeat, Tech: The Onion: Apple invents a iPhone visible only to the loyal

  • Not only is this our lightest and slimmest model ever, but as any truly savvy Apple customer can clearly see, it’s also the most handsome product we’ve ever designed.
  • Apple CEO Steve Jobs • In an Onion parody, talking about the company’s new iPhone 3GI, which is invisible to everyone except Apple’s most loyal customers. This article came out right around the time of the invention of transparent aluminum, so you laugh now, but just wait a few years until it’s real! • source

Politics: The GOP latches onto a Lady Gaga parody as a shining example

  • 23-year-old Matt Damon … er, Peter Cowman is currently being used as a shining example of how to do social media right in terms of spreading a political message. Cowman, from Republican Rep. Dave Reichert’s district in Washington, re-wrote the lyrics to Lady Gaga’s newfangled classic “Just Dance” to criticize overspending in Congress and by Obama. It’s clever, but it’s no Penny guy or Auto-Tune the News.source
