  • denial Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton added this rebuttal to the record (while noting they were all very busy people): “I have absolutely no interest and no reason for doing anything other than just dismissing these stories and moving on.” source

It’s been a couple weeks since we’ve had a rally. We think it’s time for another one. But, this time, let’s bring out all the disillusioned “Hope” and “Change” folks. source

U.S.: Chicago’s next mayor? Rahm Emanuel probably leaving White House

  • We see nothing that will stop a run. But you don’t announce a campaign for mayor of Chicago in Washington, D.C. You leave and go home and finish your business there.
  • A White House staffer • Regarding Rahm Emanuel’s expected departure to make a run for mayor of Chicago. Come on, you knew it was coming, guys. The writing has been on the wall for a while. Emanuel is reportedly putting together his own team and making stuff happen. Emanuel will be missed – he’s the most-well-known figure in Obama’s staff and the brother of Jeremy Piven … kinda. source

U.S.: Would Obama put his daughters in a D.C. public school? No.

  • He says that they’re really bad. And they have the potential to get worse thanks to the uncertain future of D.C. schools chancellor Michelle Rhee, a controversial, high-profile education reformer who may not last when Vincent Gray becomes mayor. Obama has a stake in this whole thing because of his daughters, both of whom attend the snazzy Sidwell private school. When asked whether they could get a comparable public education, he was blunt: “I’ll be blunt with you: The answer is no right now.” While he says he could get them in a good public school due to his connections, most parents don’t have his advantage. source

Politics: Obama on GOP Pledge: Whatever, stupid jerks

  • That’s not a prescription for a better future. It’s an echo of a disastrous decade we can’t afford to relive.
  • President Barack Obama • Discussing the GOP’s new “Pledge to America,” which promises to repeal many of the things Obama has done. He’s ticked that the GOP, for example, wants to roll back health care. In regards to the recession in general, Obama had this to say: “We have to keep pushing to promote growth that will generate the jobs we need, and repair the terrible damage the recession has done.” source

Politics: Shepard Fairey: Obama didn’t turn out to be like the poster

  • There’s a lot of stuff completely out of Obama’s control or any of the Democrats’ control. But I think there’s something a little deeper in terms of the optimism of the younger voter that’s happening. They wanted somebody who was going to fight against the status quo, and I don’t think that Obama has done that.
  • “Hope” Poster creator Shepard Fairey • Admitting that Obama’s potential hasn’t been met in the nearly two years he’s been in office. While he still largely supports the president, he doesn’t feel that if in the same position today he would’ve drawn the “Hope” poster. Beyond the politics, maybe he’s just a little frustrated by the whole thing – see, he’s been embroiled in a pretty rough copyright infringement suit with the Associated Press for a while. source

Politics: Three Obama quotes from Bob Woodward’s new Afghan War book

  • one “I’m not doing 10 years. I’m not doing long-term nation-building. I am not spending a trillion dollars.”
  • two “Everything we’re doing has to be focused on how we’re going to get to the point where we can reduce our footprint.”
  • three “I have to say that.
I can’t let this be a war without end, and I can’t lose the whole Democratic Party.” source

Politics: Tough crowd: Obama’s toughest town hall question today

  • Wow. That stings. At Obama’s town hall today, the president took a couple of questions like this one, which seems really pointed for a town hall. That said, Obama’s answer to the question was effective and not one bit pandering. Still though, you have to wonder if he’s going to be able to bounce back from a sluggish recovery in one piece. source
