Politics: Different poll from yesterday: Andrew Cuomo waaaaay ahead in NY

  • 57%
favor Andrew Cuomo for New York governor
  • 24% favor weird Tea Party dude Carl Paladino instead
  • 19% support other candidates like Rick Lazio, or have no opinion source
  • » Yeah yeah, we know: Yesterday we ran a similar poll which suggested Carl Paladino was very close in the race; well, this different poll completely disagrees with that. What are ya gonna do?

Politics: How the Tea Party’s beacons fared in their races tonight

  • winThe biggest bellwether of the night was in Delaware, where Christine O’Donnell somehow showed lifelong GOPer Mike Castle the exit in their Senate race. The GOP isn’t backing her.
  • lose? While Delaware’s Senate race went Tea Party, New Hampshire’s Senate race is still close. Kelly Ayotte is tied with Ray LaMontagne’s possible long-lost brother Ovide LaMontagne.
  • winThe most surprising of the three? Rick Lazio’s gubernatorial primary loss in New York to complete frickin’ unknown Carl “gonna lose to Cuomo anyway” Paladino. source

U.S.: The key facts from the Rod Blagojevich (kinda) guilty verdict

  • one the number of charges that Blago is guilty of (lying to federal invesigators)
  • 23 the number of charges that the jury can’t agree he’s guilty of (yay deadlocks!)
  • five the number of years Blago could go to prison for that one charge alone source
  • » What does this mean? Two things. First, Blago isn’t off the hook just yet. Stuart Slotnick, a criminal defense attorney specializing in white collar crimes, suggests that the verdict is simply a safeguard to ensure more consideration for the other, more complex charges he’s facing.

Politics: No, really? Michigan governor: We have to diversify our economy

  • The world has changed and we have to change with it. There’s still hope for change, but we have to create our own way forward and not wait for change to come to us.
  • Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm • Saying the most mind-numbingly obvious thing we’ve ever published. Ever. With a state that has as high of unemployment as hers and a main industry struggling as much as the auto industry, the time to act is not now. The time to act was 20 years ago, when Michael Moore was making “Roger and Me.” We’re from Michigan, so we have even less sympathy for statements like this. No talk. Just make it happen. And don’t pretend that you haven’t had your opportunities. source

Politics: Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer thinks illegal immigrants are drug mules

  • Well, we all know that the majority of the people that are coming to Arizona and trespassing are now becoming drug mules.
  • Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer • Saying the kind of thing that’s a weeeeeeeeeee bit controversial, but considering her record as governor, that wouldn’t be anything new. Brewer went even further, saying this: “So they are criminals. They’re breaking the law when they are trespassing and they’re criminals when they pack the marijuana and the drugs on their backs.” We offer the same advice to her that we have to Rand Paul in the past: Keep quiet or people might think you’re crazy. source

Politics: Eliot Spitzer: CNN uses words like “well-respected” and “prostitute”

  • Spitzer, a Democrat who resigned as governor in March 2008 after acknowledging visiting a prostitute, is a well respected political mind and a take-no-prisoners prosecutor who has been often referred to as the ‘Sheriff of Wall Street.’
  • A CNN press release • Regarding the move to take the former New York governor and put him on their 8 p.m. slot against Keith Olbermann and Bill O’Reilly. Spitzer, who we admit to be willing to give a second chance, will be joined by conservative Washington Post columnist Kathleen Parker. All told, the stunt-casting should get CNN some of eyeballs that Campbell Brown’s show never did. (Maybe.) Now, next step: Filling that 9 p.m. slot with someone other than Larry King. source
