Tech: Top Adobe guy to Apple: Drop dead. Then drop dead again.

  • We are not looking to abuse our loyal users and make them pawns for the sake of trying to hurt another company. What is clear is that Apple most definitely would do that sort of thing as is evidenced by their recent behavior.
  • Adobe platform evangelist Lee Brimelow • In a message regarding the whole Apple-blocking-Adobe-apps thing. While it’s made clear that it’s his opinion, not Adobe’s as a whole (the redacted sentence at the beginning is a nice touch), it’s no less effective at a screw-you to Apple. In fact, that’s how it ends: “Go screw yourself Apple.” Ouch. If this wasn’t an out-and-out war before … source

Tech: Does Apple have a feasible reason for blocking Flash-created apps?

  • Yes, apparently. It’s related to multitasking. As the nerd world went into a tizzy yesterday after realizing the nature of the iPhone’s new developer’s agreement, it appears that the main complaint – a clause seemingly written to block Adobe Flash-compiled apps – might have been been put in for multitasking-related reasons. Essentially, code not written directly for the iPhone may not act as anticipated with the new features, AppleInsider reports. In other news, Adobe’s SEC filing today essentially admitted Apple’s anti-Flash tactics could really hurt the company. source

Tech: Happy 20th birthday Photoshop! We’ve used you before, we think

  • Yay Photoshop! No single app has brought graphic design into a mainstream light better than Photoshop, which is a great reason to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Strangely enough, this timeline doesn’t mention anything about that slow transition to supporting Intel Macs. Must’ve forgot that. Either way, heck yeah! Happy birthday Photoshop! source

Tech: Steve Jobs reportedly has a Jobsian fit against Google and Adobe

  • Word on the street is that Steve Jobs had a pretty epic unloading session on both Google and Adobe late last week at Apple headquarters in the wake of the iPad launch, noting how 1.) Google got into the phone business even though Apple didn’t get into the search business, 2.) Google’s “Don’t be Evil” motto is “bull*%*^” or “a load of crap” depending on who you ask, and 3.) Apple doesn’t support Flash on its iPhone and iPad because it’s so buggy, and the company makes no effort to do anything with the technology Apple makes. source

Tech: Adobe’s take on the iPad: Apple’s totally being a DB about it

  • Without Flash support, iPad users will not be able to access the full range of web content, including over 70% of games and 75% of video on the web.
  • Adobe Systems Group Manager for Flash Platform Product Marketing Adrian Ludwig • Discussing the iPad and how lame it is that Apple has decided that – yet again – Flash was a poor fit for the device. He also takes issue with the company’s DRMed implementation of the ePub format. Our opinion? It makes sense that the iPhone doesn’t have having Flash due to screen size and battery life, but the iPad? Now it seems like the company’s getting petty. Then again, we’re kinda pissed it doesn’t support Hypercard. source

Tech: Adobe comes up with a workaround to the Flash-on-iPhone problem

  • problem Apple has been resistant to Flash showing up on its baby – you know, the iPhone. It’s gone out of its way to prevent the otherwise-ubiquitous software, focusing instead on platform-specific apps.
  • solution In its new version of Flash, Adobe allows you to convert Flash files into iPhone programs. Soon, we expect Steve Jobs to show up on Adobe’s property with a shotgun, screaming belligerently. source

Tech: Protip: If you installed Snow Leopard, upgrade Flash. Now.

  • The new Mac version installs a long-outdated version of Adobe’s app. You might have had a fully-upgraded version of Flash before upgrading to Snow Leopard last week, but you probably don’t have it this week. That’s because, as part of Apple’s install process, it installs Flash Player 10.0.23.1, an old version with known vulnerabilities. (The current version is 10.0.32.18.) So, do yourself a favor, guys. Upgrade Flash. Now. source

Tech: Adobe wants to expand Flash’s reach beyond the PC

  • currently Adobe’s most valuable cash cow has transformed from being the driving engine behind Animutation to being the driving engine behind online video sites such as YouTube and Hulu.
  • next They aren’t ready to settle for that; they want a much bigger piece of the pie – the set-top television market. Adobe’s CEO will address the National Association of Broadcasters today. source
