Politics: Top RNC staffer quits, throws dagger on the way out

  • Let me be clear so that there is no misunderstanding. I don’t care if the $2,000 was spent in February at a strip club or a pizza parlor. This is a matter of principle. That $2,000 should have been used to promote our conservative ideals.
  • New Hampshire Republican National Committee leader Sean Mahoney • Sending in his resignation in a way that stings. He’s not even the first member to quit the RNC since the scandal hit, but his both-middle-fingers-in-the-air approach is fun to watch. Michael Steele, by the way, will likely remain in his position at least until January when the next RNC election takes place. source

Politics: PETA’s latest ploy: An anti-factory-farming Thanksgiving ad

  • If PETA is trying to convince us that we shouldn’t eat turkeys, this video kinda sorta does it. But man, is it ever harsh. NBC said they’d be willing to air the ad in late-night time slots, but PETA wanted it to air during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, where tons of families – clearly, the target audience – could see it. Not so much, guys. source

U.S.: Those evil Pa. juvenile court judges got their convictions overturned

  • up to 1,200 kids will get their convictions overturned, thanks to the Pa. Supreme Court; the sentences tended to be surprisingly harsh and involved private juvenile detention centers
  • $2.6 million amount Luzerne County Judges Mark Ciavarella and Michael Conahan received in kickbacks from those detention centers for sentencing kids there; they’re going to jail source
