U.S.: Jesus. That company knew it was shipping tainted peanut butter.

  • *Forehead slap* According to the FDA, the Georgia peanut plant at the center of the goober salmonella outbreak knew as far back as 2007 that the peanuts it was shipping tested positive for the bacteria. Even so, it kept shipping them until a second test confirmed the first test’s suspicions, and even after THAT, allowed the tainted product to get sold. source

  • And yeah. People got sick. Peanut Corp. of America made a lot of people sick due to its actions. On top of the 575 illnesses in 43 states, eight people have died from eating tainted peanut butter. On top of that dramarama, over 1,550 products were recalled. Oh, and they caused a national scare that made me afraid of eating my favorite food. *grumble* source

U.S.: Facebook allows the class creep to go to new depths of creepiness

  • It started with Facebook High school student Anthony Stancl of New Berlin, Wisc. (outside of Milwaukee) was arrested recently for a disturbing scheme where he pretended to be a girl on Facebook. Know how they tell you to watch out for sexual predators on MySpace and Facebook? Well, it’s kinda like that, but worse. “She” would allegedly talk to the boys in his class and convince them to send the “girl” naked photos of themselves … source

  • It ended with blackmail … which “she” would then use to blackmail the students in question into giving him (not “her”) sexual favors. “She” would threaten to distribute the photos to friends or put them online. He apparently did this a number of times between February 2007 and November of last year, and faces up to 300 years in prison. And now we need to take a shower, because we feel very dirty for writing about this. source

  • Sarah Palin isn’t fading into the background, so neither are we. Given her known political aspirations, the American public deserves to know what she’s doing in Alaska, and about her extreme anti-conservation policies.
  • Rodger Schlickeisen • Defenders Action Fund President, regarding her support of a predator-control program in Alaska that allows for aerial hunting, which involves – we’re not making this up – shooting wolves from helicopters. U.S.: Got analog TV still? You have more time to convert.

  • Congress increased the time until June 12. That move, which President Obama supported, will give four extra months to the 6.5 million people who have yet to convert their analog TVs to digital. (The original date was Feb. 17, a.k.a. a week from Tuesday.) Many House Republicans did not support the passage of the bill, but it got enough votes for a two-thirds majority. source
