Sports: LeBron’s feat, in the words of a Cleveland Cavaliers teammate

  • A pretty impressive triple-double. I bet his fantasy owners are pretty happy.
  • Wally Szczerbiak • A teammate of LeBron James in Cleveland. The Cavs, at 39-9, are in the midst of a pretty killer season, helped, no doubt, by James, who has 21 career triple-doubles. • source

Sports: Michael Phelps + a bong = a great photo & a big problem

  • The deal with the Olympian 14-time gold medalist Michael Phelps is a number of things (guy with broad shoulders, dude who swims a lot, least-qualified SNL host ever), but the one that everybody forgets about is the most important: He’s still a dude in his early 20s, he’s not far removed from college, and he probably likes to party. He’s been in trouble with the law before (a DUI + probation) as a result of this, by the way. source

  • High endorsements, high times? Phelps, caught using a bong in a photo later printed in cheapo U.K. tabloid News of the World, has apologized for his actions: “I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment.” No word on what was in the bong (possibly pot, maybe hashish?), but the guy has an image to worry about. He makes millions in endorsements, and it could be a problem for him down the road. source

Sports: Derek Jeter is pretty wise about the Yankees’ chances

  • Pretty much, if you think about it, every year we have a good team on paper. We get an opportunity to win. But you don’t win for just having good players on paper.
  • Derek Jeter • On the Yankees’ addition of big-contract marquee players CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Mark Teixeira. He’s right, you know. Jeter answered that question while dodging another about the possibility of the Yankees adding a no-book clause to player and coach contracts, in the wake of Joe Torre’s new tell-all book, “The Yankee Years.” • source
