Politics: Amid warnings, Pastor Terry Jones plans to pray really hard

  • But don’t for a second think they plan not to go through with their stupid idea. After hearing criticism from the U.S. military about his congregation’s plan to go through with that whole idiotic “Burn a Koran Day” thing, Jones was on CNN kinda sorta giving lip service to the idea of not doing it. “We have firmly made up our mind, but at the same time, we are definitely praying about it,” he says. He wants to be sure his intentions are clear. You know, that his flock’s Koran burning is meant to be really nice. source

Politics: Gen. David Petraeus to Pastor Terry Jones: You’re gonna get us killed

  • It could endanger troops and it could endanger the overall effort in Afghanistan. Even the rumor that it might take place has sparked demonstrations such as the one that took place in Kabul yesterday. Were the actual burning to take place, the safety of our soldiers and civilians would be put in jeopardy and accomplishment of the mission would be made more difficult.
  • Gen. David Petraeus • Saying what should be fairly obvious: If “Burn a Koran Day” takes place, it’s going to greatly complicate the counter-insurgency in Afghanistan. A lot of people outside of the military would agree with him, but the fact of the matter is, they already have proof that it’s rustled up the natives. Oh yeah, Petraeus mentions that burning Korans is something the Taliban does. So put that in your pipe and smoke it, Terry. source

Politics: A couple New York Times liberals gang up on Obama

  • it’s one thing when the right rips Obama. It’s another thing entirely when he’s feeling the hurt from New York Times liberal columnists who should have his back, but don’t. Paul Krugman went so far as to say “Obama has had no vision.” Ouch. Here’s what we got a taste of yesterday on ABC’s “This Week”:
  • “DJ Pauly D” Krugman “What is Obama’s philosophy of government? He wobbles between sounding kind of like a liberal. Then he says, well, the conservatives have some points, too. He concedes the message.”
  • “Tommy Bahama” Friedman“Look, I’m for more health care. I’m glad we’ve extended it to more Americans. But the fact is, there is a real, I think, argument for the case that Obama completely over-read his mandate when he came in.” source

Politics: Louisiana standoff: Bobby Jindal won’t endorse David Vitter

  • Ouch. Someone’s got a big problem. Louisiana Sen. David Vitter is an incumbent and a relative lock for re-election. Too bad that he doesn’t have an endorsement from someone who should be a close ally. “Voters can make up their own minds,” said Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who’s currently very popular in his home state. Why did Jindal pass on endorsing Vitter? Two likely reasons: First, Vitter was involved with a D.C. escort in 2007, and second, Vitter allowed one of his top staffers to stay on the job despite domestic abuse charges, though he later stepped down. Still, that’s kind of harsh. source

Politics: Max Headroom: Looking ahead to Obama’s jumpstart plans


  • MCcain’s takeHaving saved himself from the brink of a tough primary, John McCain’s now got the economy and his party’s political future on his mind, both of which he talks about at length with Chris Wallace. He says that people have “lost confidence” in Obama’s economy-fixing skills.
  • Lindsey’s takeIn twelve seconds, Lindsey Graham (a far more moderate Republican than McCain, even) says what it take McCain to say in twelve minutes. Obama’s tone-deaf on a number of issues (including the economy), and that’s why Republicans are going to win big in November.
  • Alex Jones’ takeOh, who are we kidding? This is just a hilarious piece on that insane conspiracy theorist radio host whose videos are always on YouTube. Nightline did a piece on him, and it’s pretty effin’ hilarious. Nightline calls his work “paranoia porn.” That’s pretty spot-on.
