Politics: Top Republican “confused” about national debt

  • claim House Republican Eric Cantor stated yesterday that the US has acquired more debt in the last two years than the last 200 years combined.
  • fact The US accumulated $2.8 trillion in debt over the last two years. It was at $10.6 trillion prior to that; Cantor’s estimate was off by about $7.8 trillion.  source

Politics: Police nail CBS reporter for growing pot in his yard

  • On the sliding career scale, 11 pot plants is really nothing. It beats suggesting that the media is run by Jews. Or being completely unable to take a joke made by Jon Stewart. But CBS Radio reporter Howard Arenstein and his wife, Orly Azoulay (a correspondent for Israel’s most popular newspaper) were arrested yesterday for having 11 pot plants growing in their yard. Arenstein, by the way, has covered some really big stories, including 9/11 and the DC sniper incident. Will a little pot do his entire career in? Good question. source

Politics: Alvin Greene basically eating Jim DeMint’s dust in South Carolina

  • 64% of voters in South Carolina plan to vote for incumbent Jim DeMint
  • 21% plan to give their vote to socially inept accused sex offender (and unlikely candidate) Alvin Greene
  • 15%could conceivably vote for Alvin Greene, but probably won’t source
  • » Why this is bad for Democrats: Beyond the obvious “we’re going to lose a seat we expected to lose anyway” angle, Greene’s candidacy in South Carolina means that the influential far-right-leaning DeMint can spend his $4 million in funds on other things, such as, you know, propping up candidates who may not have the good fortune that he does.

Politics: Meg Whitman’s entire campaign eaten by the immigration monster

  • bad Meg Whitman’s political image has become centered on a single issue: What she did to her former undocumented housekeeper.
  • worseCalifornia’s gubernatorial debate last night became about the issue of immigration, which pretty much sucks for her. source

Politics: Attack ads in West Virginia not even hiding their racism

  • It’s funny. All you have to do to make a basic statement of fact, like West Virginia Rep. Nick Rahall’s mention that he helped get out the vote to Arab-Americans for Obama, into an attack ad is to add some dark music, deep voices and foreboding fades. In other news, holy crap. Can you believe how blatantly racist this ad is? source

Politics: Jon Stewart suggests Rick Sanchez apologize to the Jewish media

  • All he has to do is apologize to us, and we’ll hire him back.
  • Jon Stewart • Mocking Rick Sanchez’s comments on the Jewish media on Comedy Central’s “Night of Too Many Stars” charity event Saturday night. Stewart, who has gotten quite a bit of distance from the former CNN host lately, also made this quip to people thinking about donating: “If you went on radio and said the Jews control the media…you may want to hold on to your money.” AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Oh boy. source

Politics: Another Washington Mall rally, this time thrown by the left

It’s been a couple weeks since we’ve had a rally. We think it’s time for another one. But, this time, let’s bring out all the disillusioned “Hope” and “Change” folks. source

Politics: Andrew Breitbart throws James O’Keefe under the bus

  • From what I’ve read about this script, though not executed, it is patently gross and offensive. It’s not his detractors to whom he also owes this public airing. It’s to his legion of supporters.
  • Andrew Breitbart • In a post on his “Big Journalism” site yesterday, regarding the whole James O’Keefe-faux-seducing incident involving CNN reporter Abbie Boudreau. While Andrew has been critical of the network in the past, particularly for the coverage of James O’Keefe’s Mary Landrieu incident earlier this year, he noted that Boudreau and her producer “conducted themselves professionally, and I believe James owes them a candid and public explanation.” He kind of left the door open for this to be a big misunderstanding, but it’s pretty crazy that not even Breitbart can back the Hunter S. Thompson wannabe’s behavior this time. source

Politics: Andrew Shirvell headed towards disciplinary action

  • Anderson Cooper saved the day, in our opinion. The weirdest story we posted all week looks like it’s going to have a happy ending, if Chris Armstrong’s 11,000-plus Facebook supporters have anything to say about it. Michigan assistant attorney general Andrew Shirvell’s blatant stalking of University of Michigan student body president Chris Armstrong has gone from creepy to meme, rendering all of Shirvell’s mean words ineffective. The blog is closed, too. And Shirvell himself, who has taken a leave of absence from his job, is looking at some disciplinary action once he returns. We’re happy that this creepbag is getting what he deserves. source

Politics: “Rick’s List” redacted: Rick Sanchez fired from CNN

  • Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well.
  • A statement from CNN • Responding to Rick Sanchez saying that Jon Stewart is a bigot and suggesting that CNN is run by Jews by firing him. He made those comments yesterday on CNN contributor Pete Dominick’s radio show. You think his Twitter followers are gonna save him now? By the way, his timing is pitch-perfect. His 8 p.m. show is going off the air to be replaced by a less-controversial figure: Eliot Spitzer (and, OK, Kathleen Parker). CNN will have to fill out Sanchez’s Twitter-infused 3 p.m. slot, though. Maybe the guy can get a job causing the Elian Gonzalez crisis in Miami again. source
