Politics: Obama: RAHM! NO! DON’T LEAVE ME! I NEED YOU! I’M ALONE

So yeah, this Economist illustration really says it all about the Rahm Emanuel departure. Sigh. We don’t know how we’ll make it without Rahm. source

Politics: *SOB* WE CAN’T BELIEVE IT! RAHM EMANUEL IS REALLY GONE!

  • It is fair to say we could not have accomplished what we accomplished without Rahm’s leadership.
  • President Barack Obama • Giving a toast to his boy Rahm Emanuel, who is leaving the Obama administration to become the next Richard Daley of Chicago. The lovably profane drunk will be replaced by Pete Rouse, an Obama campaign adviser, at least temporarily. We’ll miss you man. We had so many great times together – at that party that one time, when we called liberals (#&@(&@ retarded, when we disagreed with Obama but supported him anyway … Sigh. It’s so hard to say goodbye to yestersday-eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. source

Politics: Economist Robert Reich: Rich getting richer, poor staying poor

  • There are big, big holes in that Wall Street financial reform act — holes big enough for Wall Street traders to drive their Ferraris through. …  I think we’re going to be left with a Wall Street that continues to grow more and more powerful and richer relative to the rest of the United States economy.
  • Economist (and Bill Clinton’s Secretary of Labor) Robert Reich • Regarding the economic recovery and financial reform, which he says has not succeeded in helping the middle-class, but has succeeded in allowing the financial industry to get richer. It’s created a disparity that, according to Reich, hasn’t existed since the Great Depression. “[The middle class] can’t go deeper and deeper into debt. They can’t work longer hours. They’ve exhausted all of their coping mechanisms,” he says. source

Politics, U.S.: The GOP: Party of fiscal responsibility

  • If Democrats were smart, they’d plaster this graph on billboards in swing districts around the country. This calculation is based on an analysis by the Center for American Progress, which used estimates by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office as their starting point (methodology here). Economics whiz Ezra Klein adds, “the treatment of the GOP’s vague spending cuts is extremely generous.” Any Tea Partiers care to comment? source

Politics: Andrew Shirvell: Insane Michigan bureaucrat stalks gay U of M student

  • Anderson Cooper, eat your heart out. The guy he’s talking to in this episode of “Anderson Cooper is Awesome” is Andrew Shirvell, an assistant Attorney General for the state of Michigan. In his free time, Shirvell runs this blog. “Chris Armstrong Watch” is basically this guy freaking the hell out over the fact that the University of Michigan’s student-body president is gay. Shirvell’s reasonable reaction to this news is to draw swastikas on Armstrong’s face and stalk Armstrong and all of his friends on Facebook. Because that’s what reasonable people do. Anderson Cooper turns Shirvell, who gets paid money from checks that taxpayers indirectly write, into a laughingstock halfway through the first question. source

Politics: Carl Paladino likes to get into shouting matches with NY Post editors

  • Carl Paladino is like the most entertaining shot in the arm for New York politics in a long time. Not that it wasn’t boring before – have you seen David Paterson? – but you just get the feeling that if this dude actually becomes the state’s governor, he’s going to have an encounter like this every single week. This video also looks like it could’ve been shot anytime in the last 30 years. Fred Decker, the NY Post’s state editor, is just a warm-up act. source

Politics: Did Meg Whitman ditch her undocumented housekeeper?

  • I was shocked and hurt that Ms. Whitman would treat me this way after nine years. I realized at that moment that she didn’t appreciate my work. I felt like she was throwing me away like a piece of garbage.
  • Meg Whitman’s former housekeeper Nicky Diaz • Showing up a couple days before October to prevent herself from becoming an “October surprise.” See, Diaz, an undocumented immigrant, was the California gubernatorial candidate’s housekeeper for nine years, only to be unceremoniously fired in an attempt by Whitman to hide the fact for political reasons. “From now on you don’t know me and I don’t know you,” Diaz claims Whitman said to her back in 2009. Whitman, who is generally very free-spending, reportedly didn’t pay some of Diaz’s wages. And who’s Diaz’s lawyer? That’s right. Gloria Allred. If this is true, Meg’s so screwed. source

Politics: James O’Keefe tries to punk CNN reporter, fails miserably

  • I never intended to become part of the story. But things suddenly took a very strange turn.
  • CNN correspondent Abbie Boudreau • On nearly getting punked by @(&#(&!) (@&!(!( James O’Keefe. O’Keefe apparently wanted to meet the reporter, alone, and pretend to hit on her in an overtly sexual way in a room complete with props (“condom jar, dildos, posters and paintings of naked women, fuzzy handcuffs”), then tape the whole thing for a hit piece. Boudreau was doing a piece on O’Keefe and other conservative activists, by the way. Is it us, or did this guy get lucky once (with completely inaccurate information) and is now just a piece of scum on the American culture? Seriously, James. Go away. source

Politics, U.S.: GOP big-wigs pull the plug on Rand Paul’s ads

  • yesterday For the first time, Senate polls in Kentucky found Democrat Jack Conway within striking distance of Tea Party favorite Rand Paul.
  • today The National Republican Senatorial Committee has pulled all advertising from Kentucky airwaves. Surely, just a coincidence. source

Politics: Lisa Murkowski turns primary loss into comeback kid bid

She’s certainly making things interesting, isn’t she? Murkowski has amassed a huge amount of support as a write-in. Take that, Sarah! source
