Culture: Holy crap, kung fu dude David Carradine was found dead?!? OMG

  • Details are still coming in, but it was in a hotel on Bangkok. Carradine, best known for his skill at martial arts as well as his roles in the ’70s TV series “Kung Fu” and the more recent “Kill Bill” films, was found dead today. Details are still being investigated. We’ll keep you posted on more. source

  • A few months ago, a survey came out saying Boston-area teens thought Rihanna was responsible for the Chris Brown domestic violence case. So, as part of a contest, they got high schoolers to make these PSAs to emphasize no, she didn’t do it.source

  • There’s no more to Holden Caulfield. Read the book again. It’s all there. Holden Caulfield is only a frozen moment in time.
  • A 1980 quote from J.D. Salinger • Referred to in his lawsuit against the producers of “60 Years Later: Coming Through the Rye,” a book that brings Holden Caulfield into the present day. The producers of the book, which is authored by “J.D. California,” also make lots and lots of joke books. Salinger, based in New Hampshire, has successfully avoided the spotlight since last publishing in 1965. May we just point out – gay marriage legal in NH on the same day NH’s most famous recluse returns to the public eye? Clearly not a coincidence. • source

Culture: How did Conan do last night in his “Tonight Show” debut?

  • Newsweek’s Josh Alston sez he’s doing well. “Conan tears himself to shreds in such a deft manner, that it’s easy to forget that self-deprecation is actually a super-annoying personality trait.”
  • New York Daily News critic David Hinckley noted how “Conan made it subtly clear that the new kid in town will be a little naughtier and that for better or worse, “Tonight” is now his ride.”
  • David Letterman was perfectly goofy about the whole thing. “I’m still here,” he said “I knocked off another competitor.” He also said his mother noted how he didn’t get the “Tonight Show” gig again.
