• Uber-host Larry King • Letting time (and low ratings) take their course. King, who’s outlasted nearly all of CNN’s on-air talent, ended weeks of speculation about his future and CNN’s overall ratings by stepping aside. He claims he’s going to spend more time with his kids, but will be back for on-air specials. This means that Anderson Cooper will be the only part of CNN’s prime-time left by the fall. We think it was a Lady Gaga hit job. source

• » Why it’s misleading: Basically, this number is up 3.8 percent from one of the lowest levels on record. It’s still 30 percent off its peak level. Also, we have to imagine the May numbers will suck even worse, what with that 33 percent drop in new home sales and all.

• The world has changed and we have to change with it. There’s still hope for change, but we have to create our own way forward and not wait for change to come to us.
• Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm • Saying the most mind-numbingly obvious thing we’ve ever published. Ever. With a state that has as high of unemployment as hers and a main industry struggling as much as the auto industry, the time to act is not now. The time to act was 20 years ago, when Michael Moore was making “Roger and Me.” We’re from Michigan, so we have even less sympathy for statements like this. No talk. Just make it happen. And don’t pretend that you haven’t had your opportunities. source

• Google did, but not too much. The search giant angered China by re-directing to its free-speech-allowing Hong Kong site, threatening to revoke its business license. So, to prevent that, Google will force Chinese users to click on an image before going to the Hong Kong site, which is annoying but likely gets around China’s problems. Will it work? Good question. China is finicky. source

• Looks like somebody broke a non-disclosure agreement. These Powerpoint slides, which have been floating around the Web on some sketchy-looking forum for over a week, have recently drawn a lot of attention for what they’re suggesting. Facial recognition? Tablets? Ambitious plans for the living room? They’re all baked into these slides. MS has some big plans which they better not screw up like Windows Phone 7. source

• KRNV news director Mary Beth Farrell • Explaining how flabbergasted she is that Nevada bizarro hippie candidate Sharron Angle has seemingly gone out of her way to avoid talking to the local mainstream media. In choosing to talk only to conservative news outlets, she’s created an atmosphere where local news outlets have become increasingly desperate to talk to the lady taking on Sen. Harry Reid. Some of those conservative outlets suggest that Reid is the evasive one, something TV news outlets scoff at. “He may still dodge questions, but at least you can see him do it,” said Jason Pasco, the news director at Reno’s KTVN. source

• The Senate just lost a key vote for the measure. When Sen. Tom Coburn made a remark that seemingly suggested he hoped Robert Byrd wouldn’t live to see the health care vote, it drew the Democrats in a tizzy. When Robert Byrd died just before the financial reform vote, it left Democratic leadership in a complete bind – now they have to find someone to replace Byrd’s vote, and hope that other Democrats don’t fall out of rank. Will it happen? source
