World: Iran just blew everyone’s minds with their agreeability

  • before Iran seemed close to reaching
a deal on enriching 2,640 pounds
of uranium that pleased the West,
then got all grumblely. Then it
    enriched more uranium.
  • now Iran actually signed an agreement
with Turkey and Brazil to do
    basically the same thing, which
is surprising, but now they have
    more uranium. source

Offbeat: Winnebago Man’s bad day is leading to a pretty good year

  • This classic of viral video form has been floating around the Web for a solid half-decade or so. Winnebago Man, a.k.a. Jack Rebney, proved himself the master of profanity in the above video, a clip Conan O’Brien named one of his favorite YouTube clips as part of their fifth anniversary celebration, and will get a banner treatment later this year as part of the awesome-sounding documentary “Winnebago Man.” True story: The guy now lives on a mountain. source

Politics: Max Headroom: Godwin’s Law broken again and again

  • Glenn Beck: Nazi-obsessed The fact of the matter is, there are dozens of clips that feature the Fox News talker bringing up Nazi Germany. We’re going to use this one because he cries in the clip. If this were an isolated incident that’d be one thing, but he regularly does this song and dance.

  • Lewis Black: Stop it, Glen With this bevy of ammo, “The Daily Show’s” most gleefully annoyed commentator went on the attack, noting how Beck is the guy who regularly brings up Nazis. Inspired even for a “Daily Show” rant, Black makes a totally convincing argument in his spiel.

  • Newt: Full steam ahead Just days after Black’s deafening rant, Newt Gingrich compared the Obama administration to Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia (something he says in his new book). You’d think Black’s rant would perhaps quiet the Nazi comparison racket. Nope. Not so much.

Culture: Dear Justin Bieber fans: You’re pawns in a viral marketing campaign

  • Justin Bieber should buy @twitter make it #BieberTwitter and then say “Who owns now bitch?” ;D
  • A Tweeter who goes by the name @BiebsOrDie • Regarding her mission, and the mission of teenage girls everywhere: Get Justin Bieber in the Twitter trending topics somehow. They’ve been doing everything in their power to make it happen, much to the frustration of people who simply want the trending topics to provide relevant information (a fact we noted on Twitter earlier today). The thing is, these teenage girls are really just vectors for the music industry. Twitter has to figure out a way to filter its results better. source

Tech: Wikipedia’s Jimmy Wales smeared by Fox News over child porn on site

  • Fox News is off their rocker. They don’t even bother to contact me before publishing nonsense.
  • Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales • Regarding an article on Fox News’s Web site suggesting that he had lost administrative privileges on his own site after he tried to delete a number of controversial images from the site that could be seen as child pornography. The Fox News article was a follow-up to an earlier piece about a letter now-departed co-founder Larry Sanger sent to the FBI regarding the site’s depictions of child porn, and unfortunately for the site, that one is true (and is a source of great debate amongst editors). source

U.S.: Hay, this guy is a genius: One solution for oil cleanup

  • This guy is either an alchemist or he’s come across a pretty amazing solution to cleaning up the massive oil spill. Florida resident Otis Goodson has been pitching this idea lately, and it’s been picking up a lot of attention. It got ours, too. Eco-friendly AND dead-simple. source

Politics: Sarah Palin assumes everyone agrees with Arizona’s immigration law

  • It’s time for Americans across this great country to stand up and say ‘We’re all Arizonans now and, in clear unity, we say Mr. President, do your job, secure our border.’
  • Sarah Palin • In a speech stumping with Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer designed to defend the state’s anti-illegal-immigration law. OK, let’s analyze this statement and how dumbheaded it is. The phrase “we’re all Arizonans now” suggests that nearly everyone agrees with this law. While many people favor it, there are lots of people that don’t, including many in the Latino community. Yet, she’s treating a law many are criticizing for reasons of racial profiling as if it’s a major populist statement. Populism doesn’t work with laws that divide the country, Sarah. Try this with abortion or gay rights and you’ll see what we’re getting at. source
