Culture: Oprah says what everyone was thinking about John Edwards

  • If you’re willing to pull off this kind of deception…what else would you be willing to deceive the American public about?
  • Oprah • Speaking on her show yesterday. Her guest was Andrew Young (along with his wife Cheri), and they were talking about the ever-popular topic of Edwards’ affairs. Regarding what the purported sex tape shows, they revealed it shows Edwards “performing sex acts” while a woman who’s probably Rielle Hunter holds the camera. “Thank you for that information,” Oprah said. No, Thank. You. Oprah. source

  • PETA posted about this billboard and then, just a few hours later, took the post down. Wonder why. Doesn’t seem controversial on its face, does it? source

U.S.: David Paterson’s staff also personally fraught with scandal

  • I’m glad you’re doing this, because I thought it was going to be swept under the table because he’s like a government official, and I have problems even calling the police because the state troopers kept calling me and harassing me to drop the charges, and I wouldn’t.
  • A woman accusing an aide of New York Gov. David Paterson of domestic abuse • Speaking at Family Court proceedings. The aide, David W. Johnson, reportedly has a history of altercations with women, and has now been suspended without pay. The reason this case is such a huge deal? Johnson – and Paterson himself – reportedly overstepped his bounds of power and got the State Police to pressure the woman do drop her case. That’s really bad, and Paterson has been quick to react in the wake of the fresh scandal. source

Politics: We imagine John Kerry feverishly working on a climate change bill

  • Senator Reid made it clear to me the other day that he wants a bill and he wants it soon.
  • Sen. John Kerry • Discussing the possibility of a climate change bill just in time for the sting of the the health care bill to wear off. He says he plans to have a bill within the next two weeks, which we imagine he’ll be writing at the very last second, asking Professor Reid if he can get an extension on because he tripped on a ketchup packet and sprained his ankle or something. source

Offbeat: The other side of the Epic Beard Man bus-fighting story

  • Let not the Epic Beard Man get all the praise for this video. This video of two dudes getting into a huge fight on an Oakland, Calf. bus shot through the internet like a pair of brass knuckles over the weekend. Here’s the other side of the argument, told by comparing each side to the video itself. Michael’s nose appears to be healing nicely. Key point of the clip: Michael knew the racist overtones of what Thomas Bruso said. Also, he’s 50 – he looks way younger. source

Biz: Why is Toyota not called “Toyoda,” like its namesake?

  • ten the number of brush strokes to write “Toyoda” in Japanese
  • eight the number of brush strokes to write “Toyota” in comparison
  • Why does this matter? Well, the number ten in Japanese resembles the plus sign, which apparently was seen as a bad omen due to the fact it also resembles crossroads. Also, “Toyota” sounds better than “Toyoda,” according to the company, which seems reasonable to us, kinda. Akio Toyoda feels shame on his company. 🙁 source
