  • 600 million doses of swine flu vaccine could be needed in the U.S. in case of a major outbreak – two for everyone in the country. Now, if we take six, does that mean that we mutate into a swine flu superhero?

Politics: More NPR “torture” drama: Was Salon’s Glenn Greenwald ignored?

  • I played a large role in spawning the controversy in the first place. I think it was pretty cowardly and irresponsible for her not to being willing to address it.
  • Glenn Greenwald • Describing his conflict with NPR Ombudsman Alicia C. Shepard, who responded to his criticism of the radio network’s policy of using the phrase “harsh interrogation techniques” instead of “torture,” but didn’t mention him in the response. Greenwald goes further to say that he invited her on his radio show, but she declined because she apparently didn’t “want to get into a shouting match.” Greenwald just wants her to have a conversation with him about it. He promises no shouting. • source

Tech: Bing tries to get a leap on the search competition with Tweet results

  • Who cares? Twitter’s own search is already really good. Microsoft, who apparently didn’t talk to the Tweetable company before implementing the new feature (not that they have to), now presents the latest tweets from a select crew of a few thousand notables (which we hope includes us, or it’s clobberin’ time). It’ll be gradual but eventually, expect to get Microsoft’s Tweets in your Bing. source

U.S.: Doctors are split on whether acetaminophen should be banned

  • I do not think eliminating combination products is necessary and that the vote to do so goes too far. Combination products, especially in caring for patients with chronic pain, are important.
  • Ohio State University-based Dr. Randy Wexler • Saying he feels that taking away drugs like Vicodin seems like a step too far. He’s not alone in thinking that, but not every doctor agrees with him. “I think that combo products are generally a bad idea,” said Dr. Elliot Krane of Stanford University. He would’ve liked to see the FDA put further limits on over-the-counter drugs, too. • source
