Biz, Politics: Explaining himself: Why a Boston Globe reporter voted no to cuts

  • They didn’t want more work from us, they didn’t want less holidays, they didn’t want fewer vacations, anything we could have offered besides just our money, they were uninterested. And I feel like they were insensitive to a lot of people who have already sacrificed quite a bit for them.
  • Reporter Scott Allen • A member of the Boston Newspaper Guild who voted no on a 8% pay cut, and since the measure failed, guaranteed himself a 23% pay cut. He claims that The New York Times Co. stacked the cards against employees who hadn’t gotten a raise in four years due to wage freezes. Of course, in the wake of all of this, the paper could close. Scary. • source

Tech: Bloggers who get bored leave a trail of broken dreams behind

  • I was always hoping more people would read it, and it would get a lot of comments. Every once in a while I would see this thing on TV about some mommy blogger making $4,000 a month, and thought, ‘I would like that.’
  • Judy Nichols • Who ran a site called “Rantings of a Crazed Soccer Mom” before she got bored because nobody was actually visiting her site. Nichols isn’t alone by a long shot. 95% of blogs get ditched for similar reasons, or because their authors get too busy. In case you’re wondering, that won’t happen to us. We spend too much time on this to get rid of it. • source

U.S.: Cali. Gov. Ahnold: Textbooks are heavy. Let’s get rid of them!

  • That’s one $350 million bill he doesn’t want to pay. Governator Arnold Schwartzenegger, looking for ways to save a little money in a huge deficit, is talking about getting kids out of textbooks and onto the Internet instead. And it’s not because the technology is so great. It’s because books are expensive and he has a $24.3 billion deficit to kill. *Whew.* Good luck duder. source

World: Kim Jong Il’s oldest son doesn’t care about politics at all

  • Personally, I am not interested in this issue (succession). Sorry, I am not interested in the politics.
  • Kim Jong Nam • Kim Jong Il’s oldest son, on his lack of desire to continue in the family business as North Korean dictator, where everybody outside of your country hates you because you’re crazy. Wonder why he wouldn’t want to do that. • source
