Music: Billy Corgan explains Smashing Pumpkins, his public persona

  • But many lack the sophistication to appreciate that just because I play a baby-faced killa upon the darkened stage that it doesn’t come close to who I really am.
  • Billy Corgan • In a lengthy manifesto. He says that the artistic complexity and diversity of his work provides hints as to his true nature as a human being. He also noted, by the way, that the Pumpkins will go on with just him, and he’s OK with that. Dude, we get it. You’re insane and you alienate your fans. It’s OK. You don’t need to explain your points any further. • source

Offbeat, Tech: Being on disability ≠ being on Facebook all day

  • A guy in British Columbia is getting his PC checked for FB usage. The guy, Brendon Bishop, is asking for permanent disability payments, claiming that a 2005 car crash made him too fatigued to work. But a ton of wall posts and pokes and Scrabulous games apparently claim otherwise, as the judge in his trial agreed to a defense motion asking for a scan of his social-networking usage. Sports: Fighting words: Lance Armstrong takes on French drug testers

  • This is just another example of the improper behavior by the French laboratory and the French anti-doping organizations. I am sorry that they are disappointed that all the tests were negative, but I do not use any prohibited drugs or substances.
  • Lance Armstrong • In a statement earlier this week. Since ticking them off by taking a shower, Armstrong has gone out on the offensive over the drug-testing agency in France, who he has had a strained relationship with. He says the agency may prevent him from racing in the Tour de France – you know, the reason he unretired in the first place. • source
