Politics: Republicans on Obama: Slow down, you move too fast

  • The problem we have is, we don’t know after 50-plus days in office what the distance of the race is and what’s the level of the president’s pace or his endurance.
  • Ed Rollins • Former political director for Ronald Reagan and the guy behind Mike Huckabee’s somewhat resonant presidential primary campaign, on what Barack Obama’s big problem is. Personally, we don’t like his ears. They stick out too much. • source

U.S., World: Guilty! The Bush shoe-thrower gets thrown in the slammer

  • Three years for the folk hero. Muntazer al-Zaidi, an Iraqi journalist who got really angry at ex-prez George W. Bush when he visited Iraq in the waning months of his presidency, was found guilty of assault for throwing a shoe at the world leader. The three-year sentence angered many who saw al-Zaidi as a folk hero, giant shoe and all. source

U.S.: Bill Clinton: Come on in, universal health care! The water’s fine!

  • The politics and the economics are much better now and the policies are better. They’ve made advances over where we were.
  • Bill Clinton • On why now’s a better time to sell the idea of universal health care than that dark time when Ace of Base was on the radio back in the early ’90s. On a side note, we were listening to Bush today. Remember them? They were dope! • source

Politics, U.S.: Speaking of celebrity couples, Bristol Palin broke up with her bf

  • They have a kid with a gubernatorial granny. Sarah Palin – remember her? She was that vice presidential candidate who was on everyone’s lips for like two months. Then we forgot about her. Anyway, her daughter Bristol, who was pregnant during the campaign, broke up with her boyfriend Levi Johnston recently. They have son, Tripp. (As in “Tripp up the campaign”? Sorry, that was harsh.) But anyway, yeah. Now it’s on the record. Back to not caring about Sarah Palin anymore. source

Culture, Politics: Ryan Adams + Mandy Moore = Married. Call them “Random.”

  • On celebrity couple names They’re a necessary evil. They create mass hysteria. They adopt more kids and gather more press than they really should, so why not take the thing that makes them truly notable – their name recognition – and bastardize and commoditize it? Magazines are happy. Talk show hosts are happy. And you make them collectively weak. source

  • Why they deserve “Random” First of all, who seriously expected Ryan Freakin’ Adams, the guy who releases six albums a year of varying quality, to marry the third-tier Britney Spears who somehow came out of teen stardom unscathed? And “Random” is a great way to describe it. And a clever way to work their name together. Happy honeymoon, Random! source

Tech, U.S.: A lawmaker wants Google Maps to blur out a ton of buildings

  • He cites terrorism. Uh, dude … Joel Anderson, a California assemblyman, recently introduced a bill called AB-255, which would require map programs like Google Maps to blur out buildings such as hospitals, schools, churches and government buildings. You know, dude, if the terrorists really wanted to take us out, they’d just have to aim at the blurry spot now. You’re kind of an idiot, Joel. source
