U.S.: Hilary Clinton was Secretary of Stating so hard, she broke her elbow

  • She fall down and go boom. Hilary Clinton, everyone’s favorite White House figure that lost in the primaries to Barack Obama, had an accident last night which resulted in a broken elbow. She’ll be back at work soon, but she needs surgery. Let’s get it over with and just give her a bionic arm already. source

Offbeat, U.S.: When Obama isn’t busy saving the economy, he’s swatting flies

  • Obama has a huge problem. His new house is swarming with flies, and it’s pissing him off. “He chases them down in the Oval with his briefing papers to smack them,” notes Council of Economic Advisors member Austan Goolsbee. They’re trying to kill them, but they’re still floating around everywhere. We know man. They annoy us too.source

U.S.: Obama’s not mentioning who’s visiting the White House

  • A nonpartisan watchdog group asked for a list. Obama said no way. Wondering who’s coming a-knockin’ for influence calls at the White House? Well, the Obama administration is tight-lipped. This is despite the administration’s promises of transparency. And despite court rulings that say they need to. So, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (or CREW) will file a lawsuit today, saying they’re deeply disappointed that they’re following the same path as Bush. (We kinda are, too.) source

Culture: Ari Emanuel: Most powerful guy in Hollywood. We hate him.

He’s so iconic, Jeremy Piven plays him on “Entourage.” His bro, Rahm, is in the White House. And now he owns a massive agency. Screw him. source

Culture, U.S.: Why we love the White House’s official Flickr page

Obama with Joe Biden and Sonia Sotomayor
  • Seriously, the photos they run are arguably better than the ones the Associated Press or any other wire service come up with. It’s yet another example of how the Obama administration is the best-designed administration ever. And, BTW, the photos are all public domain. :)source

Politics, U.S.: Wanda Sykes: The White House didn’t dig your edginess

  • Robert Gibbs, the White House Press Secretary we dig, criticized her, saying some topics “are better left for serious reflection rather than comedy.” source

U.S.: In case you’re curious, that Air Force One photo is coming soon

  • It only took scaring half of NYC to get it, BTW. The White House, which earlier this week made it sound like the photo of Air Force One flying next to the Statue of Liberty would never see the light of day, had a change of heart, according to press secretary Robert Gibbs, a.k.a. Mr. Awesome. By the way, the endeavor cost taxpayers $328,835 and angered thousands. Hoo-ray! source

Offbeat, U.S.: Obama’s “Oh-mama”-in-law is adapting to D.C. life pretty well

  • Marian Robinson, Michelle Obama’s mom, had never lived outside of Chicago before she moved into the White House, and left for the District “kicking and screaming.” She did yoga! But she wanted to help her grandkids get settled, so she moved. source
  • Now, three months in, Robinson is savoring her life as a D.C. socialite – she’s out and about nearly as much as her kid, “so much so that sometimes we have to plan our schedule around her schedule,” Michelle joked. No word on if she’s still doing yoga. source

U.S.: White House: Whoops, our bad on that low-flying jet thing

  • Last week, I approved a mission over New York. I take responsibility for that decision. While federal authorities took the proper steps to notify state and local authorities in New York and New Jersey, it’s clear that the mission created confusion and disruption.
  • Louis Caldera • Director of the White House Military Office, on allowing a plane to fly close to the ground for a photo op that freaked out tons of people in downtown NYC, which was understandably jumpy, you know, with that whole 9/11 thing. • source
