Politics: Missing from the White House beer thing: The 911 caller

  • Maybe it’s a guy thing. … She doesn’t like beer anyway.
  • Wendy Murphy • Attorney for Lucia Whalen, the woman who made the phone call that started a chain reaction that started with the arrest of Henry Louis Gates Jr. and will (hopefully) end today at the White House over (crappy domestic) beer. Murphy notes that her client, the only person who didn’t “overreact” in the situation, will be at work. Whalen, who isn’t white but a first-generation Portuguese-American, didn’t get an invite. • source

U.S.: In case you’re curious, that Air Force One photo is coming soon

  • It only took scaring half of NYC to get it, BTW. The White House, which earlier this week made it sound like the photo of Air Force One flying next to the Statue of Liberty would never see the light of day, had a change of heart, according to press secretary Robert Gibbs, a.k.a. Mr. Awesome. By the way, the endeavor cost taxpayers $328,835 and angered thousands. Hoo-ray! source

Offbeat, U.S.: Why … yes, Air Force One just flew over the Statue of Liberty

  • No, Obama wasn’t on it. New Yorkers got a bit of a shock when they noticed a presidential plane flying over one of the nation’s most iconic figures this morning. The Air Force confirms that yes, Obama’s Air Force One backup plane flew over the Statue of Liberty this morning, but it was for a photo op. Thanks for ruining our dreams, Air Force. source
