But … but … this is where we bought our iPhone! An Apple Store in Arlington, Va. (where literally, we bought our iPhone) was the scene of a random shooting. An employee was injured after a man came into the store and attacked the woman. The area it happened, so posh that a popular YouTube video makes fun of how street it isn’t, was such an unlikely spot for a shooting or robbery that customers thought boxes were falling down. On the plus side, the store was packed but the employee was the only one hurt. source
It happened so quick. The floor smushed up. It was lifted up. I saw the debris flying toward me. I was choking on the smoke.
Brianna Milstead • A 17-year-old high school student who was in the colliding train’s front car when it crashed into a train held up by traffic. The train crashed spectacularly, raising the car Milstead was in on top of the other one and tearing out its floor. Another survivor in the center of the storm, Marcie Bacchus, 30, put it succinctly: “The front of the train just opened up.” • source

This is scary. The protest starts out peaceful, than the riot police comes, and one of the victims is the guy holding the camera. (For those with weak stomachs, the violent action happens off-camera.)source
Richard Wolf was looking at (and distributing) porn at work. An Ohio appellate court upheld a felony hacking conviction last week of Wolf that claimed he exceeded his authorized use of the computer. Part of the reason Wolf is facing this conviction is that the law has stretched – The Computer Fraud and Abuse Act has been allowed to be amended by the states who have put in restrictions against access to unauthorized information at work. Technically, porn is unauthorized, but most experts agree that was never the intent of the law. source
Killer concept. Scary videos. One of our favorite humorists, David Putney, has been hard at work on creating Most Horrible Thing Ever, a site cataloging some of the scary things he’s found on the Internet and on YouTube. On top of such videos as the Gymkata trailer and Carl Lewis singing about world peace, there’s lots of distinctly Putneyian humor – a unique natural resource that must be experienced. Plus, it’s got some of the same short-form style you dig reading here. Check it out! source
Poor Rick Ankiel. The St. Louis Cardinals outfielder slammed head-first into a wall when trying to catch a pitch. Hard to watch. He’s still in recovery mode, BTW.source
