U.S.: ELECTION RESULTS! Bob McDonnell clobbers Creigh Deeds in Virginia

  • Just look at these poll numbers! Creigh Deeds never had a chance. And he did so poorly that the race could be called almost immediately after the polls close. Is this a bad sign for Obama? Who knows. All we know is that that whole Regent University paper controversy never once nicked McDonnell. Congrats, new Virginia governor. Politics: What everyone missed with Dede Scozzafava: NY Republicans suck

  • Politico makes a good point on the matter. The quick wilting of Dede Scozzafava in a New York house race may be less a statement on Scozzafava herself and more on the New York Republican Party itself. “In just a few short years,” Politico argues, “the party’s presence in state politics has dwindled to the point of extinction-or irrelevance.” The party has no statewide elected officials and few members of the state legislature. All this is despite the fact that they’re running against a Democratic party loaded with political scandals such as Eilot Spitzer and unpopular leaders such as David Paterson. Yet things like this gum them up. source

Politics: Alan Grayson looks cowardly when he’s smoked out by Fox News

  • Alan Grayson talks a good game, but he can’t be bothered to take on the people his comments piss off the most. Griff Jenkins, the kind of guy who wears hipster shades unironically, spent a lot of time staking out the liberal Florida representative, who was going out of his way not to give Fox the time of day. In a way, this is kind of what the Obama administration is doing. Except Grayson, as a first-time congressman, doesn’t have any real power in Congress – just a few memorable Republican-bashing statements. Stop hiding, Alan.source

  • While I would like nothing more than to see the Federal Reserve abolished, it is not absolutely necessary to do so with direct legislation.
  • Ron Paul • In a column on CNN where he argues that more transparency – and less spending – is needed at the Federal Reserve. But it’s all veiled – he would rather the Fed go away entirely. The uber-libertarian 2008 presidential candidate, last seen in Sacha Baron Cohen’s “Bruno” trying to fend off a gay guy, recently released a book, “Going Rogue” “End the Fed,” arguing just that. We tried to continue reading what Paul was saying, but it made our brains hurt. • source

  • Most of you all thought the public option was dead. Rumors of its death were greatly exaggerated.
  • House Education and Labor Committee chairman Rep. George Miller (D-California) • Talking about the health care bill House Speaker Nancy Pelosi introduced today. The bill includes a key compromise to make the public option work – instead of dictating rates, the U.S. will work with providers to negotiate rates, just like insurers do. All this sounds good, but it doesn’t stop the fact that the Senate is short of the 60 votes it needs to go through. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will have a tough time getting a bill through before Thanksgiving. • source
